Question about 2003 Ford Thunderbird

1 Answer

MY 2002 FORD T-BIRD WAS IN STORAGE FOR 6 MONTHS WITH A BATTERY TENDER. IT WON'T START, JUST CRANKS.THIS HAPPENED LAST YEAR. IT FINALLY STARTED AFTER ABOUT 1000 ATTEMPTS. LAST YEAR WE HAD NOT USED A BATTERY TENDER, JUST TURNED IT OFF AND THOUGHT THAT WAS THE PROBLEM SO WE USED THE TENDER THIS YEAR, BUT SAME OLD THING. THE FIRST 5 YEARS WE STORED IT WERE NO PROBLEM. BROUGHT IT TO FORD LAST YEAR AND PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR NOTHING.

I've got an old corvette that I store also. I basically disconnect the battery and when I'm ready I charge it for 3 hrs, then start the car. Usually get close to 6 and a half years out of a battery. Five ain't so bad.

Why is battery draining ford 2002 Taurus SES

Remove negative cable from battery, connect a test light to negative terminal, opposite end off light to negative battery post. ( let sit for 3 to 5 minutes). Then start pulling fuses, when the light goes out that's your bad circuit. God-Bless! Its worth a try.

start the car and pull off on side of the battery and if the car shuts off your alternator is bad if the battery wont stay charged its the battery .If you have a meter check the voltage to the battery it should be around 14.3 volts .

4.0 S TYPE CRANKS WON'T START

The first thing i would check would be the fuel pressure, the gas being sold now a days eats away at the fuel pump and makes varnish build up in pump causing the pump to go bad.

A fuel pressure gauge is needed for this test, it connects to the fuel rail and give you a reading and i would bet there is no or very very low pressure.

Is the theft system light flashing or on steady ? If not , not a aniti-theft system problem . Don't know , without looking in service info which PATS system yours has , Ford has anti-theft systems that disable the fuel or won't let the engine crank , disables the starter circuit . You need to check for spark at a plug wire , do a fuel pressure test , find out whats missing . The engine will not start an run without spark , fuel or compression . Clicking sound when trying to crank the car. Battery is only 6 months old.

A CLICKING SOUND USUALLY MEANS LOW VOLTAGE. COULD BE LOW BATTERY,OR BAD OR DIRTY CONNECTIONS AT THE BATTERY & OR STARTER. TRY JUMP STARTING WITH GOOD JUMPER CABLES " STRONG CLAMPS & #4 CABLE " . IF THAT WORKS THE BATTERY IS LOW IF IT STARTS CHECK VOLTAGE AT THE BATTERY WHILE RUNNING. VOLTAGE SHOULD READ BETWEEN 13.90 & 14.80. IF THAT IS OK , THE ALTERNATOR IS WORKING, CHECK THE BATTERY

Couldn't start the engine last night It was towed

Couldn't start .... explain symptoms:
Did starter crank?
was engine warm? cold?

The only symptom you describe is that it started when the engine was cold.

Try this:
Disconnect the battery cables and clean the cable clamps and the battery posts. Car can't start when warm with dirty battery connections (resistance too high). Low resistance when cold.
