Really a nice car. If this is an automatic, some Manufactuers use Electric solenoids to switch gears. A bad connector underneath the car could be blocking the signal.

For a stickshift, some use a slave cylinder to aid the clutch operation. If the slave cylinder is electric, it too could stop you from shifting into another gear.

You can try for wiring details. also has free wiring details when you register your vehicle with them. I am untrained for BMW products. Your best chance is to find where the Tach feed is attached to get its readings.

The Powertrain Control Module may tie both functions together. Also worthy of comment is your Security system and Ignition key. Perhaps the Antitheft is keeping the trans locked in a single gear.

I hope my solution helps you.

I want to know if I purchased a 1999 bmw 700 series v12 will I have a lot of engine /mech problems. It has 122k miles.

Hello there:
To be honest with you
This would have to depend on the current owner
on if he maintained it well and if he did not constantly drive it hard and if it has high mileage over 100 thousand miles if they tell you that several things have been replaced this is a thing that may tell you that this has issues also if you look at the engine and see a lot of oil everywhere or dosent look like it is in good condition this would be a turn off to me. and if a car smokes or does not run smoothly this is a nother area of concern ok if something doesnt seem right 8 out of 10 times you are right it is not ok?
Hope this is very helpful
Best regards Michael

One side of my V12 bmw 750iL does not work.

The M70 has two fuel pumps; one for each cylinder bank. One of mine died. I was able to access the fuel lines at the drivers side (US) rear of the engine. I spliced in a 10mm "Y" connector to the good pump and tied the two fuel rails together temporarily. Runs like a champ!

No oil pressure what so ever in v12 jaguar

have you tried reversing the pipes and see if that makes any difference other than that there must be a pressure difference between the two pumps try priming the filter with oil before starting.

1994 BMW 740iA electrical fire under hood. Cannot find proper electrical wiring diagram. Wiring is burned from 8 wire 12 pin connector and is melted into the main wire trunk that travels along the left...

Check out this link. It is to RealOEM and will provide you the BMW product codes and descriptions you need to find the replacement harness,

Also, the link below is to provide you schematics for your engine wiring harnesses. You did not indicate which engine you had (diesel or gas). The link provides access to schematics for both engines. From the main menu, select: Drive, then your engine and then select engine electrical system. As far as the cause, you didn't mention what the source of the fire was. Check online for recall notices for your specific model. A google search will yield several links to sites that list recalls for yyour vehicle. It will let you know if there are any known issues regarding engine compartment fires for your model....
