I have noticed that when I stop the car and turn it off my tail lights do not always shut off. Sometimes I am able to press the brake peddal and they will go off at that time? What could that be?

When I turn my lights on my tail lights work but when I hit my brakes the don't light up I have a 2001 vw beetle????

the brake lights don't light up or the taillights don't light up? the brake lights are brighter than the tailights so the tailights won't show up whenbrakes are applied. if no lights work when brakes are applied then check for a bad ground at the light assembly.

How do I replace the rear turn signal light bulb in my 2006 VW beetle

There are round access panels more or less behind each tail light in the trunk. There is a small slot at the edge that you can insert a wide blade screwdriver to pop the panel out. then look for the star shaped knob
unscrew it
Now it will be possible to remove the entire tail light by using a thin flat blade. A putty knife, especially a plastic one would be good. Being careful not to damage the paint, slip the blade under the lower part of the tail light lens and pry the tail light assembly out.

Once the assembly is out, both the turn signal and stop/rear lamp sockets are exposed. The connector can be removed by pushing in a little tab on the side and pulling the connector straight out. It may not be absolutely necessary to remove the connector if the wiring is long enough, but when the connector is removed, it is easier to remove the lamp socket.
hope i helped
