Question about 1993 Saturn SW2

1 Answer

High RPM at idle or shift gears

Most of the time when I press in the clutch my rpm climbs to at least 3000. Sometimes it will climb to 4-5 thousand when it does that I will turn off the car and restart it. This happens at Idle or when shifting gears. Oh it is a 1993 satrun SW2. It also feels like it is trying to mildly accelerate when at a low rpm in 2nd or third.

My 94SW had the same problem, after changing many parts with no effect, the problem went away with a new MAP sensor. And my gas mileage went back to where it should have been.

'95 Buick Park Ave, acceleration is very slow, will climb all the way to 80; however once it hits about 60 mph, it starts climbing in rpm, and gets to 3k and starts climbing. So the questions are what...

I don't know if this holds for the 95 but my understanding is that there is an oil pump in the tranny that works to keep the clutches engaged in the lower gears and it puts out a higher pressure than the rear pump. The rear pump is used to keep the clutches engaged at higher speeds because it doesn't need the sustained high pressure. The rear pump takes over from the front in higher gears. It would seem that your 'high speed' pump is not functioning properly and should be checked.

High rpm on its own when on idle and gear?

Check with your local Toyota dealer, this model may have had a recall notice out for this problem, if so they should fix it for free.

Can i shift the gear immediately while climbing on a high roads from high speed to low speed on a automatic transmission 1996 honda civic vti vtec? Do i need to brake first the engine before i will shift...

That is not recommended, as it could cause transmission damage. Since you have a VTEC you should get a power boost at around 5000 rpm which should make climbing hills easier and not need a shift of the transmission.

2001 4.6 HSE range rover will not shift up until 3000 rpm will not shift into 4th gear.

I don't know the solution and I don't want $$ but have you checked all your mode switches? It sounds like you have selected hill climbing mode or something similar.

Engine runs fine, but after warm up and run, idle climbs to over 3000 rpm. standard trans. 2003 pickup.

An engine cannot run at 3000 RPM if it is not getting a large volume of air from somewhere. I would be looking for a large vacuum leak - possibly even an intake gasket leak.

Can't find where to check Auto.Transmission level.

Try changing the oil and filter. If that doesn't help, try the speed/shift sensor, or do that first, it's up to you.
