They may or may not both come on. The fans are connected to a thermal switch that determines when they come on based on water temperature. It is built in such a manner so that at a specific temperature it turns one fan on,and if the water temperature climbs to a higher temp it will turn the second fan on. Correspndingly the fans will turn off in the same sequence as the temp in the radiator falls. The fans and their switches are connected to direct battery power bypassing the ignition so as to prevent heat damage to the engine when it is shut off after running. After you shut the car off the engine temp will continue to rise for a brief period of time before it starts to cool off and that is why the fans will come on and off, to keep it cool. Hope this helps.

What would make the fan blower for my heat or a/c stop working

I see this happen a lot especially to one brand of car (Design I guess) , what I found is that air cond drain blocks up and condensate builds up in the fan chamber this rusts the fan motor all up an it wont turn no more ,heat or Ac they don't make this an impossible repair to do , but it does take some perseverance and time + a new motor and don't forget to fix what caused it in the first place

Blower fan doesn't turn as fast as it used to.

The blower motor, especially where there is no cabin filter fitted, is subject to dust, dirt and moist air and sometimes actual moisture so the bearings can become dry and tight and the brush gear efficiency reduced.
After long use the brush gear can become covered with highly conductive dust from the brushes which further saps efficiency.

The fan tends to run close to the casing which made of plastic can over time distort and cause rubbing.

Assuming there are no problems with switch, wiring, connections or supply the motor should e removed and serviced - thoroughly washed, brush gear checked and bearings lubricated.

Fan stays on when i turn off my car,2006 ford fusion

What a pickle. How long did you give it before you disconnected the battery? You know, most fans may continue running for a short time, especially on a car that has been running at normal temperature for awhile. Reason being, the engine will actually get hotter for a bit as the coolant is no longer circulating. The fans shouldn't stay on too long. Most I have seen, less than a minute.

Be that as it may, a temporary solution to the problem, instead of disconnecting the battery to stop the fan-this is not good for the computer circuits who like steady voltage, however small-is to instead pull the fuse for the cooling fan. This is a large (80amp) maxifuse in the Battery Junction Box. The position in the box is F-29.
If it is staying on too long, the bad part appears to be a module or some type of relay-like switching device right at the fan motor itself. There are 3 wires to the fan assembly. One is the power feed from the aforementioned fuse, one is a command signal from the PCM to turn the fan on, and the last is a ground for the motor and assembly. I hope you could detach this device from the fan motor for replacement. Certainly nothing wrong with the fan motor itself. Good luck.

Does the car have an individual fan sold seprate or a dual radiator fan? My fan was just replaced now my mechanic is saying the other side is not working. I thought I had a dual fan all in one piece. ...

Looks like you can get just the motors individually or you can get the fan assembly which comes with the shroud, fans, and motors all preassembled. What kind of warranty do you think you have? 14 years on a factory warranty especially on an electric part seems a little out of the norm.

2001 oldsmbile aurora when fan is on high for a period of time it smells like the heater motor is burning. Should i replace header motor.

it may well just be dust in the motor, especially if you live in a dry area.
blow the whole area off with an air line (using a face mask as well), concentrating on the motor unit and the fan itself.
if you still get the smell after a few days then it may be worth removing the unit and cleaning it out properly or replacing it, but try blowing the dust out first

Heater motor not working/radiator fan problem

Easier to buy a new motor. Especially if your gonna go threw all the trouble to take the old one out to repair it.
Fan runs all the time because either the coolant temperature sensor is defective or the relay or circuit is shorted/ defective.

Car has excessive all-over vibration - especially when fan motor engaged

Does the car stall on hard stops or turns? when it is in park does it shake less than when it is in gear.. If it shakes more while driving, it may be the tensioner, which is the bracket that is with the belt next to the alternator. sometime when driving it may squeak, then stop completly. If it just shakes, then it is your motor mounts. try tightning them and see if they are corroded. you may need to replace them

Heater fan not working in 05 Chevy Equinox

I suspect you also checked the fuses, some vehicles are double protected, especially since you usually have to remove the entire dash panel to get to the heater fan blower motor. It should be in the middle or under the glove box, should be located in a plastic box that has like a bell shape to where the motor is. check fuses then check wiring, and make absolutely certain the relay was the correct one that you changed, in a 3 year old vehicle the fan motor should not be bad yet.

Engine overheated, now car won't start without giving it gas

Some cars cut off as a fail safe to overheating especially on newer cars. The computer controls the fans and if they are not working the computer is probably telling the car to shut off. Have you replaced the motors already, if not, this is what's happening. Once you replace the motors it should run fine. I wouldn't suggest driving it too much with this problem as it may affect the computer by giving it false info.
