Question about 2001 Volkswagen Golf

P0411 I have a p0411 code, i'm pretty sure its the combi valve because its not always a problom and my MIL (CEL) is only on some of the time so it leads me to believe that the valve is getting stuck open or **** part of the time and in turn causing the malfunction. Any conformation?

Check your vaccum lines first, then the combination valve, then the pump itself. if the combi valve failed it may have introduced hot exhaust gases to your pump so verify it's operation to make sure the pump is not damaged.

Check vacuum line to combi valve , usually vacuum hose detoriated causing clogage inside hose , restricting vacuum supply to the valve.

The service engine soon light will not come for pretest before starting engine. It is an automatic fail for emissions test. 2002 gmc sierra.


This could be something as simple as the Service Engine Soon light bulb being burned out. Removing the instrument cluster isn't too terribly difficult, but if you can carefully pull it out of the dash, look behind where the bulbs are located and see if that one happens to be burned out.

hi ecudave, i will go for a tune-up / clean up; the injection system, intake and replacing the sparks, regular maintenance like this will surely clean you emmision. as per re[air cost or shop costs, that will still depend on which part to clean or to work on or even to replace like the spark, but it will not be more than $400.

p0411 code is Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected. Google it, there are tons of VW forums out there. I would check your air pump, check all of your air hoses to be sure they aren't cracked or torn, try cleaning the mass air flow sensor, check your purge valve I had a friend that got that code and it ended up being her purge valve. Also try checking the vacuum hose to your EGR valve. Make sure to unhook the battery to reset the computer. Hopefully one of the above will work for you.

DTC P0411 is most often caused by a bad Secondary Air Injection pump or a bad Secondary Air Injection solenoid valve . Disconnect the air pump hose at the solenoid valve, start the engine and see if there is air being pumped out. If not, the pump is bad.

If there is air being pumped out, unplug the vacuum line at the solenoid valve and remove the valve. Blow through the valve. You should not be able to. Now apply vacuum to the valve and blow through it. Now you should be able to. If not the valve is bad.

Make sure the vacuum line is fully seated, against the stop, on the solenoid valve. In some cases, the vacuum hose leading to the solenoid valve for the Secondary Air system may not be fully seated on the Combi-valve tube.

Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow Detected, what does this mean? you need to replace the secondary air injection check valve, when u buy the part from the local GM dealer ask him or her to give u a print out of the location from the parts diagram reference book, they almost always will, the part is about $100

That's s failure of the secondary air pump. It'll have to be changed. It's an emissions component meant to help with cold start emissions. It won't cause engine running trouble but at inspection time you'll fail for smog. Change it before then and you'll be fine.
