Question about 1997 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

Check engine code is telling me I have a bad EGR Valve(code 32)... Where is this located on the engine of the 3.3... and on a scale of 1-10(ten being hardest) how hard do you feel it is to replace. I have done brakes, hoses, exhaust clamps and a few other things on the car already to give you an idea of what I am comfortable with.

Located on the backside of the engine passenger side. first try flushing out your intake with seafoam. disconnect the tubes off the intake that goes into the egr and allow the seafoam to set for about 10 min. take off neg cable about 10 min. to reset ecm thin start and drive to see if code come up again. on scale 1-10 removal is about 10 if you have to drop the engine

Need to check engine codes

Hi there:Code 12 - Memory standby power recently lost - Possible Causes

Battery or power line recently disconnected - This code is normal if the electrical system has been worked on or the battery has recently been disconnected. It will be removed after 15 ignition switch on/off cycles.

Low system voltage, bad battery or battery terminals - If the system recently had a power drop (due to a dead battery or bad alternator), this code will appear. If the battery terminals are bad and the engine was jumped, this code will appear. See the Diagnosing Your Charging System page for more information.

Bad connection or wiring - Check the wiring and connections between the battery, power module, and logic module (or SMEC). Check all fusible links and power connectors to the battery. Clean and regrease any corroded connectors with dielectric grease and repair any shorts.

Code 32 - Logic module did not see a change in air/fuel ratio when EGR circuit was activated - Possible CausesEGR valve stuck open or closed - If the vehicle fails emmisions, then the valve may be shut. If the enigne runs poorly at low rpm or at idle, the valve may be stuck open. It may be the valve or the transducer valve. Test the transducer valve vacuum output. At idle, the transducer valve vacuum should be mostly bled, and there should be very little, if any vacuum at the output. When the engine is revved, the vacuum should increase. If the transducer is functioning properly, replace the EGR valve.

Bad EGR solenoid or Canister purge/EGR solenoid - The solenoid is located in the right, front fender next to one to three other solenoids. See the Understanding Solenoids page for information about how to test and repair solenoids.

Bad connection or wiring - Check the wiring and connections between the solenoid and the logic module (or SMEC). Clean and regrease any corroded connectors with dielectric grease and repair any shorts.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Engine code 32 on 1998 plymouth 3.0 engine

Here are the common engine error codes for plymouth.

  • 32 (1984 only) power loss/limited lamp or circuit
  • 32 EGR gases not working (1988) - check vacuum, valve
  • 32 (1990-92, all but Turbo) computer didn't see change in air/'fuel ratio when EGR activated - check valve, vacuum lines, and EGR electrical

Diy egr valve replacement on my 02 Trooper

you need to provide more info on engine size 2 or 4 wheel drive to locate part for you to give time frame for difficulty and need to know how to test system in order to find is working properly accorking to labor hour is going to be less then an hour on the limited edition.

I have a 95 gmc 350 half ton and my check engine light comes on when I am on the highway and goes off when I drive at lower speeds. I am also getting poor gas mileage.

Most likely a bad egr valve. Take a paper clip. Jump pins A to B at the 12 pin diagnostic connector. (Top right pair wires in the connector - or - Lower left pair of wires depending on orientation) Turn key on. Count the "blinks" of the check engine light. All codes are 2-digit. Short blinks are the ones digit and long blinks are the tens digit. EACH CODE REPEATS 3 TIMES AND THE GOES TO THE NEXT CODE SET. You will get code "12" first..."b l i n k- blink-blink" It will repeat 3 times. I bet the next code will be "32" EGR system malfunction

Engine check lamp light for fey seconds. Error code 32 is diplayed. Jeep cherokee 2.5td 1995.

Review the correct year for Error Code 32:
32 (1984 only) power loss/limited lamp or circuit
    OR
32 EGR gases not working (1988) - check vacuum, valve
    OR
32 (1990-92) computer didn’t see change in air/’fuel ratio when EGR activated - check valve, vacuum lines, and EGR electrical

Hope helped (remember rated this help).

EGR valve code initiated check engine light.

If you are getting an Insufficient EGR flow code, it is likely the DPFE sensor is bad or the EGR ports are plugged in the Intake. Very rarely do these trucks actually need the valve replaced. But it is located on top of the engine, under that plastic cover that covers the throttle body. It is round, about 3 inches in diameter. It has one vac line going to the top of it and a metal pipe from the exhaust manifold going to the side.

    Engine service light

The DPFE (Diferential Pressure Sensor)sensor is usually mounted on the engine and is connected to the pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve with two rubber hoses. When the sensor goes bad, the Check Engine light comes on and typically sets any or all of teh following fault codes: P0171 & P0174 (lean codes), and/or P0401 (insufficient EGR flow). Nine out of ten times, the fault is not a bad EGR valve or a vacuum leak, but a bad DPFE sensor. A replacement costs about $112 at Ford, or about $48 at an aftermarket auto parts store.I hope this helps.

Hard Start with trouble code 32

You should have your battery checked, it may be getting old and doesn;t have as much cold cranking power, I don;t think code 32 has anything to do with the slow cranking when cold.

Trouble Code 32 indicates that the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve diaphragm is not where the ECM expects it to be. The ECM controls the diaphragm with a Pulse-Width Modulated (PWM) waveform. The EGR has a vacuum bleed solenoid that adjusts the vacuum applied to the EGR valve based on this pulse width. If there is sufficient vacuum at the EGR valve, a switch closes to send a signal back to the ECM. The absence of this signal is the bases for code 32.
The conditions for setting this code are:
    • no vacuum to EGR (switch open), and
    • Code 33 or 34 (MAF error) is not present, and
    • engine running and LV8 is less than 100, and
    • coolant temperature is > 118 deg F (48 deg C), and
    • the EGR solenoid duty cycle is < 65%, and
    • the above conditions are met for more than 25 seconds

Typical causes for this code include:
    1) Faulty EGR valve-to-ECM connection
    2) Plugged EGR passages and/or sticking EGR valve
    3) Defective EGR valve
    4) Defective ECM
