Question about 2000 Oldsmobile Alero
Sense only one window isn't working most likely you have a motor problem. I my self don't like to change just a motor. I always get the complete regulator with motor (if avaible). If the motor has failed then most likely the regulator is binding up and/or broken making the motor work harder causing the failure. So the new motor may fix it but fail just after a short time due to the same problem.
It only calls for 1.1 hours to replace your regulator. Ofcorse a shop is going to charge around $99 ($90hr labor rate) for labor. Your part from a parts store cost about $110. The shop will charge you around $220 Just depends on what they pay for it and what % they mark up parts. You can buy the part on-line for $51.02 This would be ok if you could install it.
There are also wires that could break and a switch that could be bad. It's always best to have a professional troubleshoot & repair the problem. This may be expensive at first but could save money by preventing replaceing parts that are not needed.
