2000 Chevy S10 starting problem

I have 2000 Chev S10 V6 2WD w/125000 miles on it. It was running fine and starting fine until one day it decided to not start at all. It wants to start but it won't crank over to actually start. When gas it poured into the carburetor then it starts up fine and has no problems. It runs great and there are no weird noises that it makes. The fuel filter, pump and spark plugs were changed at the regular interval. I took it to a mechanic and they told me that the fuel pump needs to be replaced again. I know it can't be that, I'm thinking it has to be a sensor or another thing that needs fixed.

    The fuel pump was replaced months before this problem happened. I wanted a second opinion on it since there are mechanics that diagnose wrong, I know from experience. I am just hesitant to pay $2000 to this mechanic for something that I already did myself. Is there anything else that might need replacing with the fuel pump? I didn't know that the S10 didn't have a carburetor either, I looked up a picture of what it is that I have poured gas into and that matched what it looked like.

    Is it fixed now,,, because mine is doing the same thing,, Runs fine as long as you are pouring gas into the throttle body,,

    I got it fixed. It was a bad fuel pump. It runs great now. Hopefully there shouldn't be any more problems. It has been a great little truck that has lasted through so much.

You don't have a carburator. The last carb was on my 1984 S-10 Blazer,which by the way ,I've had 26 years.
Why are you questioning a professional,who's help you asked for. Sounds like a fuel pump to me.

    I don't know why you would pour gas into anything,except an alcohol funny car,to fire it up and keep the blower from frosting up.

    Lets start over. Does the starter turn over the motor?

    Did you check to see if you have spark?

    Do you have a check light on dash,or stored codes?

    Do you have vacuum leaks?

    Did you put a pressure gauge on the fuel system?

    Your not going to spend a lot to solve your issues. Just need to find out what they are

    If you do need a new fuel pump,I would suggest, you jump in there and do it yourself. Maybe you got a close friend, who is go with vehicles to help you.

    I am working on one my self with the same exact symptoms......but with mine when I hook up the battery charger and set it to start and give it that 200 amp shot of juice it will start which is leading me to think it is the alternator or something like that while it is running the alternator gets very hot to the touch also the charging gauge drops significantly when i turn on the lights and then the air it will go down to the quarter mark but if you rev the moter some itl rise up a lil bit and it will run until you shut it off then you haft to hook the charger up to restart it...... although sometimes when you shut the key off the fuel pump will kick on and i dont understand that......Do you think it could be not getting enough current from the altanatior or am i given the fuel pump an extra boost and makes it push enough pressure??PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!

    Changed the fuel pump, alternator & broken ground wire. Today it won't start again!

Isolate the battery from the system, you say it starts on boost which seems to indicate the battery may be shorting out in a cell. Start with that first get a $2.00 cell float tester and pull those maintenance free caps open and probe them .....after..... you charge the battery for three hours, follow the specs on the float ball cell tester tool to determine if you have a bad cell.

When you press on the gas when the truck is running, does it rev up?

Did it die while driving down the road (foot on the accelerator) or when idle? - If so, try cranking it and get your RPMs up to 1500-2000 RPMs and put it in drive (with your other foot on the brake). See if it will continue running if you never take your foot off the gas.

I have a 1998 chevy s10 with 195000 miles, drove home from work last night went out this morning started right up died out 45 seconds later, now wont start, battery is fine,and fuel pump is still making...

Have you changed the fuel filter lately? If not do so. Sounds like fuel restriction. Filter usually on frame rail passenger side. Good luck!

Replaced transmission now abs light is on.

doing it your self is guessing
autozone and others do the code reading for free
at this point I would be checking the wires and connections as that distance after installing would be about right for a connection not put together properly would fall apart or a harness wire would burn through on the exhaust

run a fuel pressure test, if that checks out fine it may be a faulty coil pack or ignition control module

Check the ignition and Engine relay switches located under the hood. Sometimes relays go weak with age and even a bump on the road will shut them off. If you can turn the truck on, take it to Autozone or similar store for a free DTC scan code.

2003 Chevy Blazer won't start

have the computer checked out. may need reprogramming and have updates added. also check for loose or corroded connections at the terminals.
