Question about 1995 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

Air only comes out of dash

When we try to get the air to blow out of the defroster or the floor it only comes out the dash. When we turn it to air conditioning the compressor doesn't kick on. What could be the problem? The blower works at all 4 fan speeds.

There are doors that open and shut to move the air from one place to another. One may be stuck or the motor or vacuum relay is not working. You will need to pull of all the covers over your system where the vent doors are located and check the little doors for being stuck or not moving when you activate each switch.

AC is only blowing through the defrost vents in the dashboard?

I think your problem is the head unit that selects where the air comes out ie. Face, floor, defrost, or hi-level face and floor. If that's not working then it will not let you switch location that you want the air to come out.

02 SILVERADO. AIR ONLY BLOWS OUT DEFROST VENTS. REPLACED CONTROL PANEL. NO LUCK

I had a similar issue on an 05 silverado. Air would only blow out of defrost vents. But this worked for me:

1) Unplug HVAC fuse for 10-30 seconds
2) Start truck
3) A/C comes out defrost - wait about 10 to 15 secs
4) A/C then starts coming out the floor vents for about 5 seconds
5) A/C then starts coming out the dash vents.
6) While the A/C is coming out the dash vents, turn A/C OFF (otherwise it cycles back to defrost for good).
7) Turn truck OFF
8) Restart truck and it should work fine

A/C blows from defrost and floor vents, nothing from dash vents.

the switch where you turn it to blowing at your head is probably out. you will need to replace the switch control where your defrost, foot, head etc. what make, model, year is your vehicle?

Dash vents will not blow air. Defroster and floor vents blow fine.

Is it a new vehicle? I had a new vehicle that had the same problem. Answer was that the holes weren't punched out of the vent.
