Question about 1997 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

1 Answer

1997 S-10 4.3 6 cyl, 5 speed, VIN X, 250,000 miles, Misfires under load, Fuel Pump and pressure good, Plugs, Cap, Wires and Coil replaced, Timing Chain replaced, Gets random multiple misfire code 0300 and now catylst below efficiency which I suspect is now a bad cat from misfire issue. Had a 0440 emmision code but found a hole in tank vent hose and worn out gas cap replaced both didn't help with misfire but I assume code will go away. Idles fine but stumbles off idle and badly on road. Doesn't smoke and no abnormal noises. Also had a ground issue on L/H Headlight staying dim and it isn't the wire ground right behind the light causing it.

Check the ohm's reading on the fuel injectors, they should each read around 14-16 ohm's cold for most 1997 GM engines, and if any fuel injectors are not within range replace them.

2004 Sorento began with code P0305, cyl #5 misfire. Inspected and replaced plugs, wires, and coil pack on cyl #2. Repair shop told me cyl #5 injector bad so they replaced. Still has misfire.I suggeste

If you had code P0305, I don't know why they would have done anything to the #2 cylinder but if they have already replaced the plugs, wires and injector; here are a few more items to check:
1) Check connections from ECM. Look for any corrosions or bent/broken pins.
2) Check the fuel line pressure
3) Check the engine compression
4) And if the above are good, then you will probably have a defective ECM

Misfire

Yes, it could be the distributor cap or the ignition rotor. Best to replace both. It could also be dirty or defective fuel injectors.

1975 Datsun (ie. mechanical fuel pump). Carburettor, electrics (inc. battery all good) fuel strainer all good. On cold start engine needs to be cranked several times. Warm start is invariably immediate. ...

Carburated vehicles ether have an automatic choke, or the very old ones, a hand choke. Yours has an automatic choke. The starting problem likely is a problem with the choke. The problem is almost certainly not the fuel pump.To set the automatic choke, push the accelerator to the floor, and RELEASE. Then start the engine just like you would a fuel injected vehicle. If this doesn't solve the problem, then the automatic choke needs to be repaired.

1998 Park Avenue: it may not be getting fuel how can i verify this??...

the easiest and fastest way is to listen for pump activation when you turn you key to the on posistion turn your radio off turn the key to on (just before the point of starting)and you should be able to hear the humming or vibrating if you dont then you are not getting fuel. if the pump is working or you cant tell if it is go to the fuel rail look foe a cap that looks like a valve stem cap take this cap off and push the stem in if you get fuel then you know that you donthave a fuel problem if you dont get fuel to the rail then its probably the pump. hope this helps you.

The only thing you didn`t mention is the ignition module. It is under the coils and that is where the coils get there power from.Replace the module and I`m sure this will take care of your problem.Hope this helps.Good luck.
