MY 94 TOWNCAR WILL NOT START BUT DOES TURN OVER GOOD. THE FUEL PUMP WILL NOT BUILD PRESSURE UNTIL YOU CRANK THE ENGINE THEN IT COMES UP TO 40 LBS. ALSO THE FIRE AT THE PLUGS IS VERY WEAK. THE BATTERY IS NEW AND CAR TURNS OVER GOOD. ALL FUSES AND RELAYS CHECK GOOD. INERTIA SWITCH CHECKS GOOD ALSO AND IS SET. SCAN TOOL WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BUT SAY VEHICLE NOT RESPONDING. WHAT NEXT?

I listen the same problem in '94 TC, finally someone suggested a Integrated Control Module, (I belived that was its name). Its located over the radiator on the drivers side right underneath the radiator shield just to the left of the battery (standing in front of the car), it has approximately 12 wires that screw in and is 4 or 5 inches square. You could only find one at the dealer for about $175.00 and wasn't sure if it would fix the problem. Try it and tell us news.

    THAT PART. DAVE.

Hi! Regarding the fuel pump, it may be faulty and I suggest that you replace it for its not acting like the way it should be. Bout the weak firing on the plugs, please replace the rotors, distributor cap and hi tension wires. This can help a lot specially on voltage supply to the sparkplugs. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Hi! you can find it on the side of the power distribution center located next to the battery and has silvery in color. It has cooling fins on the side that faces upward. It has 2 plugs with 40pins each colored black and gray. Thats where the pcm is located. HOpe this helps.

  • tractorman50 May 12, 2010

THANK YOU FOR THE INFO, I WILL CHECK THAT AS SOON AS I GET HOME TONIGHT.

First replace the fuel pump relay, you should get fuel pressure as soon as you turn on the key. Next you will have to replace the ECU, if it wont communicate with the scan tool it will not fire ignition or injectors properly.

The problem is most likely in the pcm as it will not communicate with scan tool. Pcm for your Lincoln is under the dash on the passenger side I think. Look under the hood for a large rectangular connector, containing maybe 20 or 30 wires with a 10mm bolt in the center of it, this is the PCM connector un bolt this and remove pcm from the inside. Be sure to disconect the negative battery cable before unhooking the pcm connector.

My 94 mazda protege will crank but wont start. I replaced rotor and cap. Battery. Air sensor. When i try to turn over a thud comes fron the air sensor. Help please!!

If it won't start, have you checked for spark and fuel pressure? Remove one plug wire and ground it over the engine. Crank the engine and see if there is spark. IF spark is present, check fuel pressure to see if the pump is working. If spark and fuel are present, check for cracked air hose from air filter housing to throttle assembly allowing unmetered air into the engine. Also check for timing belt issues

My 94 Thunderbird won't start until like the 4th crank, then it runs like a champ. It acts like it isn't getting any fuel. Please help!

You may be right on your hunch.
The fuel pump gets power from the pump relay for 3 seconds when you turn the key on, then no power until the engine starts. If the fuel pressure is low it could take several trys to get the pressure up to normal and the engine start.
A mechanic would check the pump relay and the fuel pressure with a gauge before and after cranking the engine.

What does it mean when takes a while to crank

If you have to crank the engine a long time to get it to start, the problem could be a faulty fuel pump relay, or check valve in the fuel pump.
The relay may not power the pump until you get oil pressure, and the check valve may let fuel flow back into the tank when the engine is off which would require you to build pressure back up again.

Cold start problem mazda 2001

Could be the fuel pump relay, or a faulty pump, or pressure regulator.
The fuel system is supposed to hold pressure after you turn the engine off. A faulty pump or pressure regulator could allow fuel to drain back into the tank overnight. You would need to crank the engine for several seconds to build pressure back up.
The relay could be faulty and not giving the fuel pump power until the oil pressure comes up.

1992 mercury sable will turn over but wont start

Make sure battery has a full charge. If it cranks good but won't start, check the basics. Have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs, if spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. I looked at info for the 3.8L engine, 35--40 psi. Also, after you build fuel pressure, turn off the key, see if fuel pressure holds for a bit? If the pressure drops like a rock, check for fuel pressure leak. Check the vac line for fuel pressure regulator, if it has gas in it, the regulator is faulty, or a leaking fuel injector. The pressure could also drain back through fuel pump.
Also, check fuel injector pulse, engine cranking. Any applicable trouble codes?
Smell of the crankcase oil dipstick, if it smells like gas, either you don't change oil and filter very often or the engine is running very rich for some reason.

COULD BE FUEL PUMP.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 40 - 47 PSI. WITH NEW FUEL FILTER. IF FUEL PRESSURE OKAY.YOUR SPARK PLUGS COULD BE FOULING OUT BY LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS BY ADDING A CAN OF SEAFOAM TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS.WHEN YOU HOOK UP FUEL PRESSURE TESTER WITH IGNITION SWITCH ON ENGINE OFF FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD READ 40 PSI.
