Question about 1996 GMC Sonoma

My truck is overheating. I think there is a small crack in the radiater but it is holdong water. could it jus be my thermostat? Also when i hit the gas there is a clicking sound. But only when i hit the gas. Im near broke and cant afford much. help needed

Could be a bad water pump.

I HAVE A 1994 GMC SONOMA 2WD, 4 CYL., THAT'S BEEN OVERHEATING. NO WATER IN OIL. NO OIL IN WATER. BUT REPLACED THERMOSTAT THINKING THIS WOULD PROBABLY SOLVE MY PROBLEM. IT DID NOT. IT STILL GETS ABOVE


Not sure what you mean by "using a small amount of water." Are you having to refill the coolant? If you are losing coolant, it's either leaking on the ground or leaking into the combustion chamber. Either one of these will cause overheating.

Overheating, seems to have ticking noise from waterpump water running thru hoses, water leaking fronm waterpumpm area, jus dripping


Start taking it apart & figure your going to be
replacing the water pump.all radiator & heater hoses,
and thermostat
I would install a new radiator in a vehicle that old.

see this causes and remedies, you can have overheating by internal leak or external leak:
1) transmission oil cooler is leaking , 2) loose cylinder head gasket 3) engine block cracke 4) cracked cylinder head or engine block bore 50 oirl cooler is (inside radiator) is cracker.

2) external: a) leak at the hose connection b) water pump c) core plugsd) thermostat housing e) cilynder head.f) gasket cylinder head.

Sealed radiator on top - radiator hose has blown off twice - not overheating HELP


aluminum radiator
plastic top and base seal
tanks held in with crimps on aluminum radiator

find a local radiator shop to replace top seal and top plastic part
of that radiator
not as expensive as a new radiator

replace the thermostat

pressure is too much on that crack for any diy repair product

pop off hose at the wrong time =cook the motor

Overheating...coolent is full. everything is fine think its the thermastat. DOnt know how to fix?


There are any number of things which can cause/contribute to an engine overheating. Some of them:
1. Thermostat stuck closed
2. Restriction/clog in the system (hoses, radiator)
3. Blown headgasket
4. Cracked head/block
5. Water pump not pumping
6. Water pump pully/belt
7. Cooling fan not fanning/turning
8. Restricted airflow through radiator vanes

Have a qualified/certified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose this issue

My 2002 mazda 626 was overheating. Replaced the radiator (cracked) and coolant tank (leaking). Still overheating. Its the thermostat or the water pump right? Which should I check first? Where how and what...


I would check the thermostat. It should be in the housing that the upper radiator hose connects to. I would take the thermostat and put it in a pan of water on a stove, if the thermostat doesn't start to open before the water begins a rolling boil, the thermostat is probably stuck closed.

My 2003 Hyundai accent overheated and the radiator blew up..replaced the radiator and it cracked on the top again. I'm thinking its the thermostat. Any help will be appreciated


take out the old thermostat and back flush the system.check the water pump for any leaks and for any perished hoses.then refill with antifreeze with a 50/50 mix.any problems will obvious as/when you get to them (the radiator for hyundai is week by the way around the top join.as it is soldered.)

The radiator sheds heat at a specific rate. Increasing air flow increases that rate a bit, but even with increased air flow, there is a specific rate.

When you start out, there is a "cold reservoir" in the radiator — without shedding any heat at all, for a while the cold water in the radiator will keep the engine cool.

If the heat from the engine exceeds the heat the radiator can shed, as soon as the radiator water hits the temperature of the engine, you will have overheating.

If you have a head gasket leak, you are injecting heat directly into the water, heat that ought to go out the tailpipe.

If some of the tubes in the core of the radiator are not flowing, the ability of the radiator to shed heat will be diminished.

I am thinking it is either a head gasket leak/cracked combustion chamber, or a radiator that does not flow water through all the tubes.

A lean fuel mixture will generate a lot more heat than one that is richer. The coloration of the spark plug insulators can be helpful in assessing the mixture.

Small amount of steam , coming from top of radiator,resently overheated,, i changed cap, thermostat, how do i tell if thers a small crack or hole ,in radiator , cant see any leaks, driving me crazy ...


its the cap id figure but you mite want to keep the engine running in stand in front of the car with the hood open in watch fur leaks in or steam if it is coming out the top of the rad where the cap is it mite jus be the the cap theres a rubber peice on it that mite be worn

Replaced cracked radiator in 2000 Chrysler LHS but car still overheating. What could be the problem?


I had the same problem. My Chrysler LHS kept overheating. I had the thermostat changed out first and it didn't help. Then I had the water pump changed out and still did no good. Then changed out the radiator, still overheated. Come to find out the people that changed my thermostat put it in backwards. Evidently, the thermostats for these cars look different from all the others and people are not sure how to put them in. I took mine to a Chrysler dealer and they fixed it for me.
