You will need to put 12v to the fan plug to make sure the fan is still good it should spin if it is good when 12v is applied. If it workes you should change the temp sensor for the fan which is located on the engine where the upper radator hose connects to the engine. The switch you should see if you look in a little bit on the drivers side of the car in the front.

Hot engine light comes on when it is cranked

I had a young lady friend years ago tell me the overheat light was faulty but when I asked her to open the bonnet the broken fan belt was sitting on the engine bottom pan.

Suggest checking engine to see if fan belt is ok and that nothing is jammed under the fan belt like a dead rat as my mechanics found a rat jammed under the fan belt on the pulley in my car as this actually happen to me and caused the same fault (Or a cat)

What cause of overheat from engine

an engine will overheat if the rad cooling fan is not working, this will have to be check to see if its the fan motor, the fan relay. low coolant level, top up coolant check for leaks. could be head gasket problem, bad water pump(impeller worn).

Service engine soon light on

You will need to get the computer scanned for trouble codes to proceed.
The computer turns the cooling fan on when there is a problem with the engine to make sure it does not overheat.
Be sure the radiator is full of coolant.

Engine cooling fan only works when ac or defrost is on

if engine at long stand still, the engine temperature will rise about 190 degrees the cooling fan suppose to automaticaly turn on when coolant temperature sensor get hot it cause its resistance decrease causing pcm to send power to coolant fan relays and cooling fans, when you turn on AC the cooling fans suppose to turn on to cool down AC CONDENSOR, IF NOT AC WONT WORK COOLING FAN COOLS DOWN REFRIGERANT SO IT CAN RECYCLE THROUGH THE SYSTEM AGAIN.your cooling is suppose to turn on when engine at a sit still if vechicle not moving as coolant temperature rises at a set point the cooling fans will turn on cool down engine.cooling fans dont turn on when you first cold stsrt vechicle unless you have AC SWITCH ON.if cooling fans dont turn on when vechicle at a long stand still or moving along slow traffic.if coolant temperature sensor been replaced and fuses and relays okay have dealership check see if pcm driver circuit working faulty pcm will cause cooling fans not to turn on.

If fans are not working on a 1998 cadillac deville will it cause engine to overheat

Yes when you are sitting in traffic or just sitting the fans come on to cool the engine so if they are not working it will over heat. When you are on the highway the car should not over heat though becouse the wind is cooling the engine at this time.

My 95 buick low coolent light is flickering on/off, she gets hot quick if im standing still. Water pump was replaced last year. last night the light came on onsc and now tonight its flickering all the time...

with the engine running and at operarating temperature, underneath the front of car? do you see fluid running onto the ground?with engine running hot standing still,,is your coolant fan coming on? you should see it turning on the front engine side of the radiator.visually. ok check this also with engine running, turn the a/c on does the other fan come on when you turn the a/c on? if so,then the a/c fans ok. when your engines running, and it overheats sitting still,do you see at least one fan moving? if not, turn the engine off. try turning the main cooling fan by hand.if it does'nt turn easily,it's bad or locked up.does it wobble when you try to turn it? if so,it's bad. if none of the above, open the main fuse panel under the hood, check main fan relay,or fuse ,for fault. the thermostat may be suspect've had the thermostat replaced already, but when you start the engine and run it,does the main engine fan come on to do it's job? if it does, then i would suspect a bad thermostat. easily replaced at a small price for part, minimal price for labor.$40.00 for thermostat replacement is usually high. $15.00 for part is usually a high price.try auto zone.advance auto parts. never replace w/used thermostat! thank you for choosing

Hi i just brought a buick century 1998 and well is overheating and i dont know what it could be?

It could be many things. Low coolant, fault thermostat, a blockage in the system, worn or broken water pump impeller, slipping belt on water pump pulley, the cooling fans may not be operating (this could be a faulty temp sensor, fuse, relay, wiring or the fan motor itself).

My sklyark is overheating. I changed the thermostat and the starter! WTF is wrong???

Check to see if there is water in the oil...If there is water in the oil then it could have a head gasket problem...Excessive exhaust backpressure because of a clogged catalytic converter could also cause overheating..Also check belt tension and condition. A loose belt that slips may prevent the water pump from circulating coolant fast enough and/or the fan from turning fast for proper cooling...Another thing it could be is a faulty Water pump -- Any wobble in the pump shaft or seepage would call for replacement. In some instances, a pump can cause an engine to overheat if the impeller vanes are badly eroded due to corrosion or if the impeller has come loose from the shaft. The wrong pump may also cause an engine to overheat. Some engines with serpentine drive belts require a special water pump that turns in the opposite direction of those used on the same engine with ordinary V-belts... Also check the Fan -- With mechanical fans, most overheating problems are caused by a faulty fan clutch, though a missing fan shroud can reduce the fan's cooling effectiveness by as much as 50% (depending on the fan's distance from the radiator) which may be enough to cause the engine to overheat in hot weather or when working hard.
