5.7l 350 isn't a big block (i believe) this is a small block - still nice motor though.

As for oil, Cobra guys on www.cobraclub.com would say Valvoline Vr1 20w/50 mineral oil

350 VORTEC with crank sensor

Hi Jimmie:
Fouling usually is coming from oil getting into that cylinder. Possible source will be oil rings or bad valve guide/seal.
Have you checked the compression?

Best to track down the source of the gas smell. Don't need engine fires. Run it a bit until you smell the gas. then shut it down and use your finger tips to feel for leaks at all of the gas line fittings, especially on the pressure side of the fuel pump. Look for places where dirt has collected, or where the area is cleaner than that surrounding it. Dust will collect on a small amount of gas, and will be washed away by a bigger leak.

I like your comment, " The harder you run it, the better it runs".
I've a Chevy big block in a dump truck. The instructions should say, "Run it like you hate it". It likes it.

Cheers,
Ted

Engine displacement/build date/power output

The first digit is T for the Tonawanda plant.
1006 means it was built on October 6.
CKL means it could be a 350 engine from a 1973 Camaro, Malibu, or Caprice, or a 262 engine from a 1975 Nova.

How do i go about putting a big block into a chevy bel-air

The big block should mate up to the trans. just fine if it's a T-350 or T-400 trans. that you're using. You'll have to change the engine mounts and your accessory brackets to the big block application. The fuel pump, I believe, is going to be different. The carb. linkage will be the same. Your exhaust may not bolt right up depending if you're using headers or not. The distributor will be the same as the small block. The guage hook ups will be pretty close to the other engine.

What size engine and transmission do i need for 24inch rims?

best bang for your buck 350 cid with a turbo 350 or 700r4 ... the 350 engine can be stroked out to 383 using the internals:pistons and crank from a 400 in big block... but just stroking a 350 on a hot tranny with low gears to drive those big wheels is important get a 4;11 low gear ratio you ll be able to drag that monster.
