Question about 2008 Pontiac G6 Sedan

1 Answer

I bought a 2008 Pontiac G6 3.5L with 25,000 miles last year. I now have 41,000 miles and the engine light is on, diagnostic revealed O2 sensors, I changed the 3 sensors (upper stream) and the light is still on. ( disconnected the battery and reconnected again... the light still came on)... My inspection sticker is due this month and I can't get one until the engine light problem is taken care of... PLEASE HELP!!

Ok you should use a code reader to clear the code. It can be rented at the auto parts store. The pontiac G6's have an issue with the catalytic converter this may need to be replaced. Try the dealership as with less 60k miles it may be a free replacement.

Check your fuse and replace any that are burnt out. It is possible that it your heater on your O2 sensor shorted that it blew the fuse.

2005 Pontiac Vibe runs great but it is eating fuel.

My first guess is that your oxygen sensor has gone bad. However, I'd think you'd have an engine warning light come on. In my experience, a bad oxygen sensor can really mess up your fuel mileage, even though the car seems to run fine. I'll bet your friendly car shop can fix you up.

2003 Pontiac Vibe - 4 Cyl. 150k miles. Ignition coils keep going bad - every 4-6k miles. Coil 1 has been replaced 4 times, Coil 3 once. Coil 4 twice in the past year (20k miles). All spark plugs

Install new spark plugs, 4 new coils & replace the oxygen sensors

O2 Sensors are only good for 100,000 miles, then slow
down or quite

No idea why the coils do not last 5 or 6 years

Cylinder #1 is always at the front on a 4 cyl

Go to Rock Auto --Buy Wells Coils,NGK Double
Platinum Plugs & NTK O2 Sensor

Those parts are expensive because you have a Totota
Motor I guess

I have a 2002 chevy impala, I bought the car in december 2008 since i bought it Ive had to change the same o2 sensor about 5 times, the last time i had it changed the engine light came back on 4 days later...

Couple of notes - poor grade of fuel or additives can be coating O2 sensors. Next, when changing sensors are you disconnecting battery? If not a power surge can damage sensor and lastly check wiring harness and make sure wires are all clean and not scared along the way - could be shorting out.

Bought a 2010 Explorer. It has 25,000 miles on it. This a.m. the amber light that looks like an engine came on - what does this mean?

That is the "Check Engine" light, and it indicates that the car's computer has detected some sort of problem, probably in the emissions system. Make sure your gas cap is tight (yes, something that simple can cause the light to come on!), and take a look under the hood to see if you spot any loose vacuum hoses. If not, you'll need to take it to the dealer so they can use a diagnostic computer to diagnose and correct the problem. At 25,000 miles, it should be covered under warranty. Hopefully it will be something simple!

The check engine soon light just came on, what does it mean. I just bought the car used with 83,000 miles on it. I bought it through an automotive repair shop where the valve cover gasket was resently...

Someone must attach a diagnostic unit to the plug under the dash. A set of error codes then reveals the error(s) which triggered the light. I have had a mess of saturns and generally it is an O2 sensor. These are before and after the catalytic converter, and are screwed into the exhaust system. Advance and Autozone have cheap little units and they charge nothing. A shop will have a fancier unit and charge about a hundred bucks, which does not include the repair.

Leave 02 sensor alone ,it is doing it's job . It is heated up because of lean fuel mixture due to incorrect engine temp.,replace thermostat before looking further.
