Question about 2007 Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI
One of the kids has pushed the grommit into the inside of the passanger door frame.
Now the lock will not work and I cannot see where to start with removing the trim. Went to dealer and they want £289.00 to just put a new lock in. Want to see if I can sort it myself if it's not requiring special tools.
Possibly the door handle surround but just wondered if anybody has any advice?
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

I had the same problem of the door not closing because of that little mechanism locked down. I kept wiggling and poking the little mechanism and it finally let up after i just pulled open on the inside door handle. hope this helps.

The only special tool I can think of is a big box of band-aides........
If you've changed a motor before then you know what you're doing.
Good luck, and make sure there are no kids around when you start cursing..lol

You'll see a small ring on the inside of the crank where it meets the panel. That ring holds the crank in place. To remove the handle simple push the ring up and the handle will slide right off. Depending on the position of the crank the ring might have to be pushed up down or sideways. Hope that helps.

I have solved the problem with the help of others who post earlier comments who had a similar problem. I read that the tang at the entrance of the tumbler sleeve that receives the key is plastic and that by using a small sturdy screw driver you can bend the tang in. I was then able to insert the key. I plan on having a new tumbler sleeve installed in the near future.
