Black smoke is from oil burning through the exhaust. It sounds like the rings are shot since a lost of power is your problem. If power was not an issue it would be a bad valve seal

Have a test done on the glo-plug system as it appears that they have burnt out and are not pre-heating the cylinders or providing a source of ignition for the atomised fuel from the injectors

Black smoke coming from exhaust pipe

black smoke is coming from exhaust possible causes--- excess fuel enters cylinders and does not burn completely. poor fuel milage is also a common complaint, when black smoke comes out tailpipe its running to rich!! This can be caused by anything from a computer malfunction to a leaking fuel injector. A possible fix would possibly be a tune up or carburetor/fuel injection work. run some good injector cleaner in it, it may fix the problem. but if not check it out further. good-day !!

Cylinder number one stops firing, and black smoke comes out of the exhaust. I replaced the coil pack and spark plugs. when i unplug battery and reset the faults, it drives fine for a couple days. what...

honestly it sounds like you have a bad computer. there is a constant 12 volts going to each fuel injector and the computer momentarily grounds each fuel injector to activate, the black smoke is from too much gasoline and the missfire is probably from the injector either hanging open or being held open electricaly. next time it starts to missfire on number 1 cylinder try taking a stethiscope or long screw driver and put it on #1 fuel injector with the engine running and see if you hear a clicking sound. If not try unplugging the #1 Fuel injector. this won't fix the missfire but you can see if the black smoke clears up. if the smoke doesn't clear up with the injector unplugged and you are sure its # 1 cylinder thats missing, replace #1 fuel injector.

If you have a lot of black smoke then its over fueling getting to much diesel to the cylinder's. Sounds like an injector problem with the slight knocking noise. Che ck the return pipes are not blocked. If the smoke is dark brown then this is a problem with the valves on the intake manifold which control's the intake of exhaust emmisions.
