There is a dipstick on the transmission it on the left [when standing in front of car looking at engine] and is forward of the transmission. pour the oil in the tube the dipstick is in. engine must be running and either park or neutral. it will say wich position it should be in on the end of the dipstick. it MUST be checked in the position noted on the stick or you may not fill it to the proper level. pour some in then wait a bit then put stick in tube and pull out to check level. look at both sides of the stick and go by wichever side reads the lowest level.[ some times oil will drip from the tube onto the stick giving a false higher level]

Always check the transmission fluid with the engine hot (after driving) and while the car is idling and in park.

Pour the transmission fluid, using a funnel, into the tube where the transmission dipstick is. The dipstick handle is usually the RED one.

Do not overfill the transmission fluid, as this could cause it to come out into the engine compartment thru the filler/dipstick tube when it becomes hot and potentially catch on fire.

Good luck

My trans fluid poured out

Determine where the fluid is coming from. Start with checking the transmission lines going to the front of the vehicle. There should be 2 that connect to a transmission cooler or to the radiator, typically on the passenger side. If one of these started leaking it may have sprayed transmission fluid onto your engine, causing the smoke.

Why did my transmission fluid pour out after my truck started smoking?

May it be that fluid spilled the exhaust manifold (smoke produced)? How is the fluid level?

Transmission fluid

You need to remove transmission dipstick, use the narow long funnel and pour the transmission fluid that way. Please check the level of transmission fluid only when vehicle was driven for at least half an hour. Park the vehicle on level surface and whit engine off check the transmission dipstick for range of fluid . If fluid is low add carefully to the center mark of the dipstick between minimum and maximum range. Drive vehicle or select each gear down and back holding your brake and at each gear for 10 seconds up and down the shifter. Check the level again and add if needed. Repeat til you have reach that level. Do not overfill it!

Started my car and i believe transmission fluid pouring out

Well, there are transm. fluid cooling lines in that area, down kind of low on the car, running from the transmission to the fluid tank or reservoir on the radiator. And when the engine is running, the transmission pump is running, so the lines would be pushing fluid. One is a line bringing fluid to the radiator, and the other is a return line. If one of these lines broke, it will need replacing. You will have to find the leak and see what's up.

I cant check fluid in transmission no dipstick

THE 4T40 E 4T45 E AND 4T65 E THESE TRANSMISSIONS DONT HAVE A FILL TUBE WITH DIP STICK.THOSE TRANSMISSION VECHICLE HAS TO BE PUT ON A LIFT AND LEVEL. TRANSMISSION HAS A FLUID CHECK PLUG LOWER HOUSING TRANSMISSION JUST ABOVE THE OIL DRAIN PLUG.TO CHECK FLUID TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE OPERATING TEMPERATURE. WITH ENGINE RUNNING AND TRANSMISSION FLUID PLUG REMOVE IF TRANSMISSION FLUID POURS OUT. CHECK PLUG HOLE.YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN TRANSMISSION.IF FLUID DONT DRIP OUT HOLE NEED TO ADD A PINT AT A TIME.IF FLUID DRIPS OUT SLOWLY FLUID CORRECT TO POUR TRANSMISSION IN TRANSMISSION RAISE HOOD LOOK ON TOP TRANSMISSION ON DRIVER SIDE FOR A RED VENT FILL PLUG.REMOVE PLUG USING A LONG LONG FUNNEL POUR TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE VENT FILL PLUG HOLE.THIS VECHICLE THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO CHECK FLUID USING A LIFT.YOU CAN DO THIS JOB BUT IT WILL VERY DANGEROUS YOU CAN PUT CAR ON JACK STANDS WITH VECHICLE SITTING LEVEL. BUT THE DANGER PART COMES YOU HAVE TO SLIDE UNDER THE CAR WHILE ENGINE RUNNING TO CHECK FLUID.IF YOU DO THIS JOB HAVE FRIEND OR HELPER AROUND DONT WORK UNDER CAR BY YOUR SELF ALWAYS KEEP CELLUAR PHONE ON HAND FOR EMERGENCY.

I cannot find the transmission dipstick

TRANSMISSION DONT HAVE DIP STICK,YOU HAVE A CHECK PLUG LOCATED UNDER TRANSMISSION NEAR THE PAN ADJACENT TO THE ENGINE OIL DRAIN PLUG.CHECK PLUG IS A METRIC 11M OR 12M METRIC BOLT.TO CHECK FLUID CAR HAS TO BE LEVEL AND ENGINE RUNNING.WHEN YOU REMOVE CHECK PLUG, IF FLUID POUR OUT YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN TRANSMISSION, IF FLUID SLOW DRIP YOU HAVE ENOUGH FLUID IN TRANSMISSION, IF NO FLUID DONT DRIP OUT WHEN CHECK PLUG REMOVED,ADD A PINT OF TRANSMISSION FLUID AT A TIME.YOU POUR FLUID AT TOP OF TRANSMISSION UNDER THE HOOD,YOU WILL SEE A RED VENT FILL CAP, REMOVE CAP, YOU NEED A VERY LONG FUNNEL TO POUR TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE TRANSMISSION. IF YOU HAVE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING OR SLIPPING PROBLEMS,MOST TIME TRANSMISSION DUE FOR FILTER AND FLUID CHANGE IF YOU AT THE 60000 MILES TO 120000 MILES TIME FOR FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE.

Where do you install transmission fluid on a 1994 mazda protege

For a manual transmission, you have to remove the speedometer cable from the top of the transmission, including the single bolt that holds the speedometer cable housing. From there, you use a long tube and a funnel to pour the transmission fluid into the speedometer cable hole. Yes, quite inconvenient.

Locate where to pour transmission fluid

DO NOT pour transmission fluid into this transmission. This is a sealed transmission and should ONLY be serviced by a qualified Jaguar Specialist. It uses VERY specific and expensive transmission fluid, and if the wrong fluid is used, it will fail shortly. This will end up costing thousands of dollars. If you want to have a local Transmission Service Center do the work, be sure to confirm they know how to deal with the Jaguar.

I know, because I own a 1999 XJR and have already looked into this.

I've heard quotes for changing the fluid range from $300 - $800. A bit ridiculous if you ask me, but a mistake will cost dearly. I've heard Transmissions for these run from $2000 - $6000, depending on who you ask. Jaguar will not even rebuild them, so you would need to find a qualified Jaguar Transmission Shop.
