I have a 1949 Mercury 4 dr 118 '' wb, 59''/60'' wheel stance What Ford frame can i put under my car for a newer suspension,brakes and steering.

    I spent over 8 hrs going thru articles on frame swaps and no-one had done one. Everyone either does
    front clips or GM frames with a 350 engine. I have a Ford and it's staying Ford. I had seen an article years ago where someone had used a Ford frame and it was a good fit. so Thanks, but you didn't give me an useful advice.
    As far as spending big bucks, not gonna happen, I've been in the Autobody trade too long to know it can always be done easier and faster.
    When i find the info and do the job,I'll send you pics to prove it.

jack up car, fit safety jacks at each side of frame well in front of rear wheels, remove tail shaft , place floor jack under rear axle housing and jack up , but not lifting off safety jacks.remove brake lines, remove rear shocks, remove drag links ect from chassis frame, lower and remove jack, wheel out rear axle.

My power steering fluid comes back out on 2002 Ford Taurus I just put a new belt on it


Darlene, did you by chance overfill the power steering reservoir or was there any other steering work done recently. Could be air in the system, a bad pump, pinched/collapsed hose, etc. You may have to have a good Tech. diagnose and estimate repair. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

I have a 2003 Grand Marquis with a steering problem, When you turn hard to the right the steering seems to float on them shortly after straightening out makes a hard turn right without turning the ste


Immediately take the vehicle out of service until you can repair it! You may have a dangerously worn or cracked tie rod end or ball joint. Jack up the front end, put blocks or jack stands under the frame (but not the moveable parts of the suspension), and manually try to move the suspension parts. If you detect slop at the moveable connections, that's part of the problem. As part of this, rock the wheels back and forth to check for bad ball joints or control arm bushings.

Another possibility is a bad seal or check valve in the power steering actuator.

Hi there, provided your tyres have been fitted correctly, like others have said there are a few reasons why you can experience what we call a shudder through the steering under braking and what normally feels worse when braking from 100kph/60mph rather then from 50kph/30mph, if you do have warped front discs/rotors they will need to be checked but a common cause for steering shudder also along side warped brake discs are the control arm bushes which is item #7 in the pic supplied and they fit into item #6, these can be seen quite easily with the front of the vehicle jacked up it is the lower control arm seen going from the bottom of the front wheel suspension assembly to forward of the front wheel to cross member/ sub frame, with the vehicle jacked you can see the rubber inside the bush itself to see whether it's cracked, be sure that when they are being replaced as is with all suspension bushes the vehicle must be rested back on its wheels before tightening the bolt item #8 as this is the normal working position of the bush and not in the jacked up position.

Steering wheel stuck and key wont turn


One of the things is a lock-out switch on the brake pedal lever. Some are coordinated with the gearshift, the Keyswitch, and the starter Relay. Check to see if the brake lights work when you press on the brake pedal. If no signal is going to the brake lights, then there is a chance that the Park shift lever, the steering wheel and the Keyswitch are bound up.

Sometimes a steering wheel is at the extreme reach of the travel in the front suspension. This can sometimes happen in cold weather when the car is sitting on ice or snow. When the ice or snow melts, the front tires settle into a position that puts pressure on the steering wheel and loads Torque up the steering column. Another possibility is that the car was bumped in the Parking lot and jammed into a position creating Torque on the steering column.

Last, the tumbler inside the Keyswitch could have fallen apart and that is why the mechanism is not releasing the steering wheel.

There are adjustments in the Keyswitch to be at the correct position to work with the lockout at the bottom of the steering column.

My 2003 f150 pulls to left when i initially apply brakes,then straightens out.I replaced both calipers,rotors and pads.bled air out of lines and problem still exist's.


Check the rubber bushings on the front suspension arms, especially the lower radius leading arms. When you brake the inertia of the car is thrown forward and the lower arms come under enormous strain. If the radius arm to body frame bushing has gone then the leading arm moves rearwards slightly and causes toe out on the front wheel. If one side is weaker than the other then the car steers/pulls in the direction of toe out. If these check out then look at the ball joints on the steering arms and the steering links. Use a pry bar and be quite forceful, its a big truck and there should be no movement.

Purchased focus sport 2006 model no service manual. Mileage 43,000 kms. Need to know service intervals either time/mileage perhaps a copy of the service schedule will suffice.

Vibration in steering when brakes applied


It is possible that there are some loose links on the suspension or the steering section.
So an under inspection is needed to check for any damage to the suspension or the steering.
tighten the bolts holding the steering links, the balance rods, the wheel hubs , the front suspension.
Also check the wheel balancing, the brake discs and the wheel bearings( bearing assembly) as this can cause the same fault.

How to change the wheel speed sensor


The front wheel speed sensors are built into the steering knuckle. If you can get under the car, you may be able to remove them without taking off the tire. The sensor is held in by a single bolt and has a 2-pin electrical connector that should be located near to where the suspension mounts to the vehicle frame. The wire for the sensor should be secured by the same clip that secures the brake hose.

The rear sensors are similar, but will either be mounted to the drum brake backing plate or the the disk brake adapter (depending on what type of rear brakes you have).

These sensors are usually pretty easy to get to. Even though you can probably reach them from underneath the car, it will probably be easier to reach them with the tires removed. Just be sure to support your car using jack stands.

Wheel Hub, Wheel Knuckle and Wheel Bearing SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S) REQUIRED Description Tool Number Tie Rod End Separator T85M-3395-A
Removal
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel (1007) and tire assembly.
  3. NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the front brake hose (2078).

    Remove the disc brake caliper (2B120) and suspend it with mechanic's wire out of the way. Refer to Section 06-03 for the removal procedure.
  4. Remove the front disc brake rotor (1125).
  5. Remove and discard the cotter pin.
  6. Remove the nut retainer and insulator.
  7. Remove the front axle wheel hub retainer (3B477) and the front wheel outer bearing retainer washer (1195).




  8. Remove and discard the cotter pin from the front suspension lower arm ball joint (3050).
  9. Loosen the front suspension lower arm ball joint nut until it contacts the front wheel driveshaft joint.

  10. Strike the front wheel knuckle with a hammer while pulling down on the front suspension lower arm (3078) until the front suspension lower arm ball joint separates from the front wheel knuckle.




  11. Remove the front suspension lower arm ball joint nut.




  12. Remove the front suspension lower arm ball joint from the front wheel knuckle.
  13. Remove and discard the cotter pin.




  14. Remove the tie rod end nut.




  15. Use Tie Rod End Separator T85M-3395-A to separate the tie rod end (3A130) from the front wheel knuckle.




  16. Remove the front brake anti-lock sensor bolt.




  17. Remove the two front shock absorber-to-front wheel knuckle nuts.




  18. Remove the two front shock absorber-to-front wheel knuckle bolts.
  19. Remove the front shock absorber (18124) from the front wheel knuckle.
  20. Use 2-Jaw Puller D80L-1002-L, or equivalent, to separate the front wheel driveshaft and joint (3B436) from the front wheel knuckle.
  21. Remove the front wheel hub, front wheel knuckle and front wheel bearing as an assembly from the vehicle.
  22. If necessary, match mark and remove the steering stop bolt and steering stop bolt jam nut from the front wheel knuckle.




Installation
  1. Position the front wheel hub, front wheel knuckle and front wheel bearing as an assembly on the front wheel driveshaft and joint.
  1. Install the front wheel knuckle into the front shock absorber.
  1. Install the two front shock absorber-to-front wheel knuckle bolts.
  1. Install the two front shock absorber-to-front wheel knuckle nuts. Tighten the front shock absorber-to-front wheel knuckle nuts to 113-123 Nm (83-91 lb-ft).
