Question about 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

Thank you in advance. I just recently had a new fuel pump put in my 2002 grand am se, and everything was fine till about 4 or 5 days later the engine would lag in idle. Now it will sometimes stall in idle like at stop lights and seems the problem is progressing. Any clues as to what it could be?

You might have gotten a defective fuel pump. Was the fuel filter replaced? The sock on the end of the pump should have been replaced also.

2002 rav 4, will only start with starter fluid, replaced battery and fuel pump does run, what else could be the problem

Key on engine off, did you use a gage and check proper fuel pressure? I've seen fuel pumps that would run, but, wouldn't make good pressure.
When you use the starter fluid are you saying it will run fine the rest of the day, or it will just run till the starter fluid is used up?
You can also check for fuel injector pulse, engine cranking.

I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE. Have had periodic problems starting.Battery seems fine and someone told me it may be the fuel pump which is supposedly in the gas tank.(big money replacement job) Or...

your car would struggle at high speeds if it was the fuel pump.

Go to a mechanic, I can't stress this enough, and get a full systems check. Basically the mechanic pulls out this mini computer lookin device and hooks it up to your engine and tells you everything that is wrong. It's 50-80 bucks. Well worth it.

Try engine cleaner (put into a full tank of gas) or a tune up would do nothing but help.

2001 grand am v6 se the fuel pump was bad we replaced it and now no power will get to the pump all fuses are new relays are new pump is new and has been checked and working fine. can anyone help me

The fuel pump on many vehicles has a switch incorperated into the air flow sensor. This is to stop any chance of flooding....If the air flow has a gate try pushing it open a few milimeters and see what happens or if not, connect everything as is required and crank the engine to check and find out if the power is there when doing so....Let me know what happens and then if you're still in problems we'll go further....Regards Johngee

My 2002 jeep grand cherokee wont start at the first try some times it takes up to the tird try to start the engine

If your suv idles correctly and runs fine, there's the chance that your fuel pump's check valve is bad. This valve prevents the fuel line to drain emty after turning off the vehicle so now when you try to turn it on again you have to wait till the fuel pump fills the fuel line completely to be able to "feed" the engine. Hope I was clear.

Driving normal, at 80 kms, car seems to studder a bit, (gas wise) engine light comes on. Stop car, re-start, everything fine, no engine light, at 60 kms, fine, get up to 80 km, engine light comes on and...

First try replacing air filter if not done recently $30, next consider bad fuel put in fuel from major oil company from station with many patrons. Then you need to look at fuel delivery system including fuel filter and furl pump. But first try the 2 things mentioned.
