Question about 2001 Lincoln LS

I keep getting a rich code on Bank 1 and a lean code on Bank 2. I've replaced the MAF sensor and all 4 O2 sensors and it still says this? What is wrong? It is also idling a little loud.

I think the timing chain is jumped check the timing marks;;;;; :)

Try changing the EGR vavle.

1.4L turbo CEL P0171 P015B P1101 replaced bank 1&2 o2 sensors MAF sensor and all 4 spark plugs idles at 700rpm now roughly getting 20mpg instead of 48mpg anyone have any ideas?


There is no code P015B. Also you may have a actual lean condition and there was nothing wrong with the old part. Check for engine vacuum leaks while you monitor the output voltage from the O2 sensors. 1.0 volt is very rich fuel, .25 Volt and lower is very lean. The sensors should go back and forth with an average voltage of about .55 volts.

there is nothing wrong with the timing chain position . Just a series of sensors that have gone outside the set parameters so if you check and change each one you will clear the faults.

P0154 - 02 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
The oxygen sensors are critical to the engine running properly. It basically informs the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) of oxygen content of the exhaust. The PCM then uses this information to regulate fuel into the engine and maintain proper air:fuel ratio. It is a four wire sensor, with the PCM providing a reference/signal voltage of about half a volt (0.5v) to the sensor. It usually provides a ground also. The other two wires are dedicated to the oxygen sensor heater element. This heater allows the sensor to warm up faster, which allows the engine to enter closed loop faster, reducing startup emissions. The heater element is supplied a 12v feed from the power distribution center (usually) and a ground.

The oxygen content of the exhaust affects the O2 sensor resistance. This resistance produces a counter voltage on the reference/signal wire that the PCM will use to analyze oxygen in the exhaust. Lean exhaust produces low voltage, while rich exhaust produces high voltage. The oxygen sensor is capable of varying between 0.9v (rich) and 0.1v (lean). Once the engine reaches closed loop, the O2 sensor should begin switching rapidly between rich and lean voltages 2-3 times per second. If for some reason the O2 sensor doesn't switch properly or "sticks", P0154 may set. This code indicates the O2 sensor isn't operating.


P0174 - System Too Lean (Bank 2)
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 2 is generally the side of the engine that doesn't have cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration.

I keep getting a p0171 and p0175 codes from the scanner (auto x-ray)(meaning i'm lean in bank 1 and too rich in bank 2). fuel injector cleaner didn't help really help. so should i replace the upstream O2...


p0171, p0175 = system too lean (usually related to MAF Sensor) this means that the Air Flow Sensor is telling the computer that much less air is entering the engine than actually is. but first check for vacuum leaks in hoses and also pcv hose. the maf sensor may just need cleaned. any auto parts store will have maf sensor spray, follow directions on can. or you can use electrical spray also. as for the 02 sensors its possible. check or clean maf sensor first.

I have a 1997 chevy silverado putting out a code of p0174 what does this mean?


Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 2 is generally the side of the engine that doesn't have cylinder #1.

A code P0174 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

•The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
•There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Possible solutions include:

•In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for its location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
•Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
•Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

Check Engine light is on my 1997 F150 with a small V-8. The tester returns codes P0171, P0172, P0174 and P0175. What does all this mean?


those codes are for lean engine condition look for vac leaks at the back of engine to the pcv valve could hear hissing noise with engine running also check egr valve to be stuck open also when was last fuel filter changed? hope this helps .

Bank one is toward the front of the vehicle. Sounds like the heated oxygen sensors have gone bad. The Oxygen Sensors are located in the exhaust pipe and require a special socket to remove and replace.

Bank 1 is the side that has # 1 cylinder in it, the sensor is located in the exhaust head pipe before the Cat Converter, one note of caution: an O2 code does not always indicate an O2 sensor problem, it depends if the code is a lean code or a rich code, lean may may be a sensor, rich is never a sensor, lean codes can be caused by all kinds of issues, a bad MAF, a vacuum leak from hoses or a leaking intake gasket, an injector problem and so on. Good luck hope it is the sensor.
