Question about 1997 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

I have Jeep Cherokee with faulty air-con. It has a single wire plug compressor and I have sourced a replacement that is a twin wire. Looking at the connections the single wire takes one wire straight to ground and the other supplies the compressor. Can I therefore change this over and make the twin wire compressor a single wire by taking one wire to ground? And swapping my broken compressor single wire over? It seems like the design change was to take it to two wires so my Heath Robinson modification in theory may work! And advice appreciated

Yes you can. the old style relied on the pump case for a ground and sometimes caused electralisis to eat away at the case causing a leak

The air con on my 1997 jeep grand cherokee 4 lt increases engine vibration sound

is the engine misfiring
or the compressor just shaking
this is obvious if you just look.
if not, get it serviced, we can go beyond that.
we use a stethoscope to listen to both , and hear what is making noise. or just look.

Ac not working 1996 jeep cherokee country.doesn't put out cold air

You could be low an R134a coolant, compressor might not be working or the pressure sensor might not be working. First thing you need to do is check the compressor look at the front of it and see if the center is spinning when you turn on the air, it should spin when the air is on or the defroster is on, if it is not spinning the R134a may be low or the pressure sensor could be bad. If it is spinning it may just be low on R134a but not low enough for the sensor to shut off the pump.Ok here is how to check if the compressor is (not spinning) Follow the aluminum lines off the AC compressor under the hood until you find the pressure sensor it will have a plug with two wires coming off of it, unplug it and get a 2 or three inch piece of wire like speaker wire or something that has a bunch of small wires in it and not a big solid single wire, strip both ends of the wire and insert them into the plug holes of the switch plug this should engage the compressor if not the compressor may be bad if so let the compressor run for a little while if the ac gets cold the pressure sensor is bad if not it the system is low on R134a which you can get from Wal-mart and do your self. If it does work with the wire and you determine that it is just the sensor you can run it with the wire in it but if the system ever gets low on R134a the pump will not shut off and it can burn out the pump so it is not recommended although i've been running mine like that for about a year now. Please post any further Questions.

1999 grand jeep cherokee limited air con prob water coming out vent behind driver seat and water drops noted under glove box front passenger side ???? what to do air con recently regased works well but...

You have a leak in your air conditioning compressor Your system works on the reheat principle All air passing through the system is cooled and reheated before it enters the cabin this sould be dehumidified air but it passes through the heater core and sence the air is not dehumidified you are getting condansation as the air flows the heater core that is heated by the engine heat and the water is from condencation because of the leak in the ac compressor The unit is a press fit in the center of it and fials unfortinatly a lot with this disgien of compressor

When i turn my air con on and accelerate the car surges. is this something i should be looking into. It doesn't matter too much i'm just wondering if there is some thing wrong with the car. Thanks. the car...

The surge you are feeling is the a/c compressor engaging and dis engaging. the compressor places a demand on the horse power output of the engine which translates into surge feeling.

Blows out fuses when switching to air con 30amps

REMOVE POWER WIRE TO A/C AT A/C AND SEE IF THAT BLOWES THE FUES if so then the compressor is faulty or the clutch is so get it replaced by the AIR/CON People as it has to be drained and recharged under pressure..
But when feed cable to A/C is removed and it stills blows fues then its the wiring from fuse box to a/c via the pressure switch..

No air

You may have to get aircon recharged as pressure regulator switch on aircon pump is not allowing use of pump to protect itself.easy test is to take the two wires off the switch and join them if the air con pump works you will need to recharge.Do not leave hooked up as pump will eventualy sieze.
