There are two line connections they are fairly simple to remove, make sure the system pressure has been drained before attempting to remove either line. The compressor itself is held on with four bolts, and the belt will have to be removed. After a/c compressor is removed, reinstall in the order you removed it, then it will have to be charged with freon. As for ease of replacing that depends on your patience with removing bolts in small places. If you have never done this before you may want to seek out a good repair shop in your local area. Hope this helps.

My daughter has a 95 Ford Escort Wagon. The temperature gauge either does not work at all or it bounces back and forth with acceleration or deceleration. The gauge goes up when you accelerate and it goes...

connector may be loose at the temperature sensor. connector should be snug on the sensor. If necessary, bend the terminals carefully to make firm contact. If this does not solve the problem, you may want to replace the sensor. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

if you have the 2.3 liter engine follow these steps...
  1. On models with anti-theft audio system , refer to Technician Safety Information .
  2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  3. Remove lefthand charge air cooler, then righthand upper seal board, Fig. 3 .
  4. Remove condenser fan assembly.
  5. Disconnect alternator, then alternator electrical connector.
  6. Remove lefthand splash shield.
  7. Remove drive belt.
  8. Remove A/C compressor, then, with pipe still connected, position A/C compressor away from generator for easy access to alternator.
  9. Remove alternator from under vehicle.
  10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
    1. Torque lefthand splash shield bolts to 70 - 95 in.lb.
    2. Torque condenser fan bolts to 70 - 95 in.lb.
    3. Torque lefthand charge air cooler nuts to 12 - 16 ft.lb.

95 ford escort fan works normal but not with a/c

The A/C compressor is not kicking in. It could just be low on freon or the compressor could be bad.

Ford Escort 1.8 deisel

Is this a normally aspirated diesel, or a turbo?
If its a normally aspirated, as most of the saloon/sedan models were, then there is nothing to be done. The engine outputs a whole 55kw and you suddenly start using 10 of them for air con...
If its the TD 70 or 90 then you may have a problem. The compressor does make a notable load on the engine, but should still be reasonably responsive. You could look into repacing the compressor, but that will be very costly. The aircon was a bolt-on for that engine, and is probably best to just accept if its cooling ok, then do nothing, or stop using it.

the ac unit is basically fridge compressor so when you turn it on it will sap around 10 to 15% your engines power
you could try getting a basic engine service done change the oil and oil/air and fuel fillters this should improve the overall performance
