there is no nut...push in type fitting. collar has plastic tabs that do not push in

  • debebohnsack May 08, 2010

the lighter assembly problem is on a 2001 GMC Yukon

  • debebohnsack May 08, 2010

I have the console out and sitting on my kitchen counter. Look at the pictures attached and see if you can see what I have. It doesn't appear to me that anything will turn 90 degrees.

  • debebohnsack May 08, 2010

There appears to be nothing that will turn 90 degrees. We've tried to turn the cylinder and all we've done is bent the metal.

  • debebohnsack May 08, 2010

There is no retainer nut. Look at the pictures and see if you can tell what type it is, and how to remove it.

  • debebohnsack May 09, 2010

I have the console on my kitchen counter. There is no retaining nut. My intention is to replace with an OEM lighter socket, if I could only get the original one out. I appreciate your patience and assistance! Did the photos come through on my return post? I can re-send if need be, or take additional photos.

    Thank you!

The cigar lighter is held in the console by a large stamped steel barrel nut at the rear, it screws onto the back of the element to hold it to the console panel, to remove the lighter you must pull the console top off and then u can get at the lighter retainer nut.

from a Chevy club post of this same problem.

There is a little trick for this, You have to rotate the inner lighter housing 90* while holding the outer trim ring (black) so that it doesn't rotate. What you are trying to do is to free up the housing from the tabs of the trim ring. You can see them with a flash light if you look inside of the housing.

After you have rotated the housing you can pull the housing out of the trim ring. It will be tough because you will be also pulling off the push on wire connector. YOU MUST Pull the fuse prior to doing this. If you cannot get the housing out, you will most likely have to pull your radio out, my hand are to big to get past the deck from the underside.

oh its one of those ok.. you have to take like a set of plyers and put them into the socket and turn it 90 degrees to the right and it will pop out.

  • dave taylor May 08, 2010

ya thats right hold the black piece with plyers and take another pair on the silver piece and turn it and it will pop out.

2008 buick enclaqve how do i remove the cigarette lighter

Either there is a large nut that hold the assembly in place against the dashboard or whatever, or there may be spring loaded, expanding clips that pop when you insert the assembly into the proper hole.

You also need to remove the hot ware that is connected to the assembly and tape it off so it does not contact any grounded vehicle parts.

How do you remove a cigarette lighter socket

I'm assuming this is the lighter in the center console by the beverage holder? If not I'll need more details.
First you have to make sure the power is cut to it, so either pull the fuse or disconnect the battery. Warning, disconnecting the battery WILL reset things like radio settings and clocks.
Now get yourself a flat-head screwdriver. You want to carefully unsnap the front of the beverage holder console, and once the front is unsnapped you can lift it to unsnap the rear of the beverage holder console and remove it.
Now grasp the top part of the cigarette lighter's panel and pull it straight out. Make sure you don't yank on the electrical connections. I'd suggest unplugging them so you can work on the lighter easier.
From there you simply have to unscrew the retainer from the socket and remove the lighter.
If you're installing a new one, just reverse the process.

Cigarette lighter doesn't work

either the push in part of the lighter is bad a fuse has blown or the actual socket has burned out. check the fuse first if it is good then get behind the lighter and check to see if there is power to the lighter. if there is then replace the lighter assembly while your there. hope this helps

Need location of fuse box containing cigarette lighter fuse

On some vehicles the cigarette lighter fuse is attached to the cigarette lighter assembly itself. Check if you can gently prise the cigarette lighter assembly out of its location in the dashboard, or remove any panel that may allow access to the rear of the cigarette lighter and look for the fuse (it may be an in-line one in the power lead to the cigarette lighter or it may be physically attached to the cigarette lighter itself). Failing that, the fusebox is normally under the dashboard on the driver side, but some fuseboxes can be found under the dashboard on the passenger side. There should be a diagram under the fusebox cover that shows what circuits each fuse protects. If a fuse has blown ensure that another of the same type and value is used to replace it.

Cigarette lighter assembly not working

There is a special tool for removing the cigarette lighter.Usually only the dealers and tool guys will have this tool.If you remove the element you will see 2 slots across from each other. The tool goes into these slots and the lighter pulls out. What you can do is disconnect the cigarette lighter and if the fuse does not blow then you know for sure the element is the problem.See if you can insert something in the slots to disengage the lighter assembly and try to remove it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Cigarette lighter

There should be a pair of thin metal tabs along the side of the body of the lighter housing. These need to be gently pulled away so that they click underneath the console when inserted.

1993 Mercury Tracer cigarette lighter

I assume that you tried the cigarette lighter itself and didnt rely solely that the charger was working properly. When you tightened the ring on caseing did you see that the wire connected on the back of the lighter was properly attatched, sometimes a good connection loosens up especially if caseing was found to be loose.. Well assuming it was properly connected you could test the circuit with either a multimeter or 12 volt test light if power is found at connection then you problem is definetly the cigarette lighter assembly itself.. I hope this was helpful...Let me know I would appreciate it

Cigarette lighter came to gain access to console?

remove the ashtray. then remove the holder for the ashtray. the lighter is just inside. be careful not to short the hot wire to ground. It runs from the battery to the fuse box then to the lighter. Check the fuse if the first if you haven't already.
