Check your oil level using the dipstick and make sure you have not overfilled the engine. If the oil level is where it should be, then filling it with oil had nothing to do with the noise.
If it is overfull, the oil has become aerated (whipped) and is causing a loss of lubrication. Drain any overfull oil and make sure the level is correct, then restart. If the noise persist, further inspection will be necessary to find out what's loose.
You need to drain oil out the drain plug till it's at the proper level. Engine damage could result from being overfull-the crankshaft will be churning the oil in the crankcase around-if it starts foaming, you will lose oil pressure. Engine could seize from lack of oil pressure.
A loss of coolant with no apparent leak more than likely means you have a blown head gasket, cracked head, or both. Coolant entering the combustion chamber can cause a miss and that would set the Check Engine light. STOP driving this vehicle until you can find out for sure. You will destroy this engine if it has a blown head gasket and you continue to drive it. Other symptoms of a blown head gasket are white smoke from the exhaust and an overfull oil level with a white foamy substance on the underside of the oil fill cap. You will also have a sweet smell at the exhaust.
The valve cover gasket isn't hard to change. Oil on the plugs indicates a more serious problem. Smoke from the exhaust would be from rings, rich mixture, worn valve guides. It may be that the engine is overfull (that would show on the stick). Oil loss from a leaking gasket would smoke under the hood and leave oil on the engine and the ground.
Oil level that is overfull is just as bad as oil level that is low. The crankshaft hits the oil and causes cavitation which mixes air with the oil. This will cause poor lubrication and can even cause the oil light to come on from lack of pressure. This will cause engine damage. You need to know why it is overfull. Did someone pour in too much oil or do you have a blown head gasket causing coolant to mix with the oil. Symptoms of a blown head gasket are, loss of coolant with no apparent leak, white smoke from the exhaust, oil level overfull, a foamy substance on the underside of the oil fill cap. If you are experiencing any or all of these symptoms, STOP driving the vehicle immediately. You will destroy the engine if you continue to drive it with a blown head gasket. If you are experiencing none of these symptoms then drain enough oil out to get it down to the full mark and no more and take it to a professional for diagnosis.
Of course it can be low of oil, but I assume you checked the oil level. It can be a bad oil pressure sending unit. Check the wiring at the oil pressure sensor and make sure it is connected tight and is not loose. If you see any oil leaking from the sensor replace it. If this started after an oil change remove the filter and install a Purolator, Wix, or Mazda filter. Then check the oil level after starting and running the engine for a couple of minutes. Top it off with the correct weight oil. If it is overfull of oil it can cause the pressure light to flicker. Make sure it is not overfull. If so, drain out any excess oil. Overfilling is just as bad as under filling. Also make sure you are using the correct weight oil which is more than likely 5w20. Check your owner's manual to be sure. I would suspect you will find the oil pressure sensor is the culprit.
The light comes on when the oil pressure is too low, when the sending unit is bad, and, if you have too much oil in the engine and it whips the oil so much that the oil pump cannot pull the oil in since it is mainly bubbles
The knocking sound comes from a shortage of oil to he bearings, tapping comes from the valve train under the rocker cover (cylinder head).
Make sure you haven't lost any oil & that it isn't overfull and correct that if needed. Beyond what I've mentioned, you would be looking at the oil pump needing to be replaced or major engine repair if the bearings have spun or worn excessively.
OK, now you added 2 quarts of oil just because someone told you to. Did you check the oil level yourself? That is very suspicious unless your engine is smoking and burning oil. Park the car on a level surface, shut the engine off, and after 30 minutes remove the dip stick and check the oil level. You may find it is overfull. If it is that is just as bad as unde-full. In any case, Change the oil & filter and use a quality filter such as Purolator or Wix and the correct weight oil which will probably be 5w20. Check your owner's manual to be sure. If the oil light is still on, have a oil pressure test run. You may have nothing more than a bad oil pressure sending unit.
Hi there , Generally if the engine oil lamp light is illuminating it is indicating that there is a problem in the oil system, That could mean that its just overdue for a service, Incorrect oil grade/type Overfull or underfull oil level Oil pressure switch faulty Oil pump failing or an oil leak in the system. I would highly recomend that you check it out before taking it too many places as oil is the only thing between your current engine and buying another new engine/car Make sure you check the oil and water regulary its far easier then the other more expensive and painful options of replacing worn components. Hope this helps you out in some way, If you need moer help just post back again and ill get to you asap Cheers
