Question about 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

The radio does not work

I just recently purchased a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. The battery was dead so I replaced it with a new one. The radio does not work. I checked the number 42 fuse and it is ok. I pulled it out and waited 10 sec. And it still wont turn on. Like there is no power. The previous owner never used the radio since the car was new so I was wondering if you had any suggestions?

Take out radio and check connectors on the back are all on securely. Also look to see if there's a fuse fitted on the back of the unit - normally a 2 or 3 Amp rating.

Have you checked the radio fuse? You may have blown the fuse when you jumped the car. The fuse box should be out under the hood encased in black plastic.

probably dead battery. it probably has just enough juice to run the lights and radio but not enough to make it start. could be battery or alternator.

2002 Jetta TDI radio fuse number? After battery vent dead, need to reset radio by pulling fuse. It is not marked in fuse box and no fuse list is in mannual.

The Fuse number is..... drum roll..... 42 .... And you don't even have to have a dead battery for the radio to lock up. I have owned my 2002 tdi since New... and about 4 or 5 times a year radio dies. When you remove the fuse... don't immediately put it back in.... The capacitors in the radio have not fully discharged and if you put the fuse right back in.. chances are it will stay locked. I count to 15... then put the fuse back in. Close fuse door.... Operate radio normally till next lock up.... then repeat process. So you won't forget the fuse number... write #42 in the white space of your fuse location sticker that is attached to the inside of the fuse door. Hope this helps... tried to be detailed.

did batteries work temporarily?.. you then have a parasitic leak sucking power when not running...radio aftermarket or alarm or gps will do it ...also checking ground from battery is critical to good connection
