Check your ignition wires, coil packs, and check your injection system. make sure that you're getting plenty of feed from the fuel pump, and make sure your injectors are working.
Not sure to be honest as to what the cause could be ,i would suspect a coil pack problem or even the ignition module if it has one but i think it may be built into the ECU ,although you havent stated if this is a diesel engined vehicle so having more information would help a great deal
need to visit the dealer is best ,this could be anything from a coil pack to a crank sensor evan the air flow meter could cause it ,or the worst case scenario the ECU ,
I have the same problem on my 95 grand cherokee laredo. Sometimes it starts out fine and after about 10 miles it starts spitting and sputtering. Then after a while it seems to clean out and run fine again for a little while. Then other times it starts out spitting and sputtering at the begining. I changed the fuel filter and that was not it. It is a 4.0L 6cyc. Any Ideas?
Check for fire to the coil pack. These have a tendency to go bad on these cars. Could be a cam or crank sensor, these also go bad. If you haven't changed the plugs in 30K, this is due also, wires every 60K. May need to actually get it hooked to a machine to find out for sure.
on the 03 2.2l eccotech the plugs are below the coil packs there ar four 10mm bolts that hold the coil packs in the spark plugs are under there sitting down in the engine
