Question about 1992 Mitsubishi Expo

1 Answer

1992 Mitsubishi AWD 4 Cylinder Mitsu Expo AWD had the Check Engine Light come on a few weeks ago. It has been still running OK until last week. It reached 125,600 miles. It was getting rough running the other day and after I came in the yard and parked, it cut itself off after idling rough. Other than the distributor contact parts, spark plugs and wires, what else can I check to find out why it is sounding like it's running on three cylinders ? On the highway, it would smoothe out for a short distance and then it would cut out and lose power. I barely made it home and it's been sitting since. It is fuel injected and I was wondering if one of the injectors could be going bad. I have had what I call the "Go Go Bus" since the end of last year and haven't had any problems out of it until now. Do you have some suggestions as to what I could check next ? Thanks for any input. Jeff I have a slight exhaust leak between the bottom of manifold and the connecting pipe. I haven't taken it to a shop yet and have been driving it. It is a little louder that it should be.

Try the knock sensor or EGR valve if it back firers or anything that would be because of the bad exhaust manifold gasket. good luck hope i helped out.

The fuel filter is probably full of metal too. (fuel starvation) replace it.

Did you ever find a solution to the P0304 warning. I am at 40,000 miles on my 07 RL and got the same warning along with an AWD warning. Just got it serviced last week, what a coincidence.

Yellow check engine light is on - is it OK to

as long as the light is not flashing, you should be good to go. you can also have a parts store scan the system. most parts store will do this at no cost. doing this would make sure nothing serious is going on.

Oil light flashing, last oil change 7 wks ago

I belive they didn't reset the oil light timer. I belive the sequence is 1. key on (not acc with engine off)
2. step on the brake pedal 5 times within 10 seconds. 3. key off. 4. start car. 5. check if the light went out. you may have to try it a few times to get it.

there may be a software update for the powertrain control module for mis-fire monitor. check with your local dealer. but if thats not the case, these engines are known at least in my experience of having the heads crack between the valves and cause mild mis-fires. try compression testing all the cylinders and performing a leakdown test on them as well.
