What is a scan tool

A scan tool allows for the OBD II (On Board Diagnostics) codes to be read from the engine computer in a car. These are common electronic diagnostics tools used by automotive technicians. They are usually used when a check engine light comes on to determine the error codes associated with the check engine light.

They almost always connect via a standard plug on the divers side under the dash.

Most automotive parts supplier will check a car with complementary service to determine the codes stored in a customers automobile.

Chevy diesal wont start fuel pressure is good

Make sure no check engine light. If light on run diagnostic prior to testing. If no check eng. light and no start when cold, could be bad glow plugs, Take test light from positive side of battery to each glow plug post (unplug from harness before testing) if test light lights plug good . if plugs good check pump mounted driver (scan tool required) if P.M.D. good run test for optical sensor in injector pump (scan tool required). Known failure points. I am working on assumption fuel pressure tested between lift pump and injector pump. Look for white smoke when cranking, if present fuel entering cylinders. I can't offer anymore help without further info. Hope this helps.

Turns over but will not start gas or spark

A car will not start without gas. You may also face the risk of having the fuel pump clogged and would need to replace it. Know more information about the diagnostic tool @http://www.obd2express.co.uk

Engine wont start when cold but after starting with starting fluid runs fine

The heat might have melted or damaged your main relay. Does it turn over or try to start, or does the lights simply come on and it does nothing?

if you need a diagnostic tool click here

I need help in diagnosing the problem WHat to DO?

the scan tool is not being connected correctly as there is a report if the engine light is on
take the vehicle and your scan tool to an accredited service center and have them pug it in to the DCL terminal and see if you are connecting it right
read the fault codes and go from there

Honda element check engine light on multiple times. dealer turns off, but keeps coming back

The dealer should not simply reset the check engine light without informing you as to the reason it is coming on. The hadheld diagnostic tool should be plugged in to your cars unit and the code deciphered - it could be a simple matter such as the gas pressure valve system in the fuel tank or something more sinister or expensive if you leave it - I am astonished that they simply reset it - go to another dealer and ask them or your local garage as the diagnostic tool is not dealer specific - anyone can buy them.

My EPC light goes on and then it is on it is very hard to get my car to start. when i am able to start the car my check engine light is on continuously. My car also seems to be accelerating by it self...

Multiple causes for EPC light (Electronic Power Control).
Vehicle needs to be scaned with appropriate diagnostic tool , without it nobody can tell what's wrong.
You'll have to take it to work shop for diagnostics.

How do you check transmition fluid on 2006 4 liter v6 ford mustang. is there a dip stick

peterc759: Unfortunately, this is a procedure you are not going to be able to do your self. There are not even that many shops out side of the dealers who can do it properly without the proper special tools.
The car must be hooked up to a diagnostic monitor which can read the transmission fluid temperature. Most shops who are up to date probably own the scanner which will plug into the diagnostic port and read that information. BUT, from there the car must be put on a lift or raised up high enough and kept level, to access the transmission filler and drain plug. There is a special tool which is inserted in the transmission through the filler plug "while the engine is running and the transmission fluid has reached a certain temperature. At that point the tool is inserted to take the fluid level reading.
I hope I have answered your question even if it is not the answer you would like to have heard.
