Pull the dip stick for the oil , its probably over full ! The reason is that you have a bad head gasket ! So water / coolant are mixed with the oil !

Oil leak, 5 quarts in 75 miles. Somewhere to the rear of the filter, filter OK

Hello thundergod: My name is Roger and I will answer your question.Their is a oil pressure switch located to the rear of the oil filter. Should have a shield over the terminal. When this switch ruptures you will have a large oil leak. If you unplug the switch and start the engine you will see the switch leak. If you have a gauge it is called a sender unit. If you have a light on the dash it is called a pressure switch. Please rate the quality of this answer as this is how we know you received the right answer. Thank You for using FixYa.Roger

Oil leak from sensor

It's called an oil pressure sending unit. There are two versions one for vehicles with a light on dash, one for those with a gauge. It's not expensive and MUST be replaced. Not hard to do.

My 96 cherokee, I6 4.0L, dumping oil

your parts store would call it an oil presure sending unit

Oil leak

This problem is more than likely caused by someone hitting your oil sending unit which is located right above the oil filter on those models which is a poor design. The part can be bought at a parts store for about $25 and will only take a few minutes to replace. The job can be performed easier with a oil pressure sending unit socket which is designed for removing them.
