Ac compresssor comes on only sometimes when it comes on it works extremely well. no noieses no over heating. but it doesnt always come on trace the wireing and couldnt find any obvious problems, any ideas?

The best I can tell u is that the smell is from a leak at the evaporator or connections. I advise to get another opinion because it sounds like a lot of guesswork. if u get the work done, make sure the work comes with a warrantee! I gave all my customers warrantees for 20 years. That's part of the diagnostic business! Good Luck If u don't get a warrantee ,don't get the diagnosis or work done
No coolant has to do with heat. freon has to do with ac. Now when you said your ac AND blower doesnt come on right away are you saying it does this ONLY when its on ac or when its on heat too. I would first change out your coolant level sensor or add coolant (which you said was fine) and see what happens. but im sure they are not in relation as the blower motor is on its own circuit
as far as the gas gage goes you might need to replace the fuel senser thats inside the gas tank if this is to costly you can fill your tank up log how many miles your car goes per tank to help you keep trake of when you need to fill up again
need to check the back side of the ac connector where the harness plugs in remove the heater control unit assy and u will see the ac button connector with it still pluged in start the car and turn the ac button on wiggle the ac connector if the light comes on and off it's a loose connection in the harness/connector at the ac button try to jamb a folded over zip tie about 4inches long in between the ac button connector and the plastic frame basicly just make sure that the connector staitionary not wiggling around I had the same problem on my 95 prelude vtec push the ac button sometimes comes on or hitting the dash just got old hope this helps
I guess first thing to find out is why compressor is not coming on, as without that running you won't get any cool air. May just need a recharge, but I would have that checked out first. If system is low on freon, it won't engage, and if it is low, why, as in where is leak & how much to fix it, would be my first concern.
warm your car up to temperture. Grab the upper rediator hose. Is it warm or cool. If its cool your thermosat is stuck closed and thats why you have no heat. If that works fine I would look at your heater core next.
broken cable? if possible trace the cables back to the box move then bolth and see if one doesnt, if so you could alwase manually move it for a temp fix
