Turn on the key and listen for the pump to run for 5 seconds. If it does, repeat this process about 5 times.
spray starting fluid in air intake too.

Did you hear the pump run?

And, no it is not a sensor.

And, no your fuel pump does not have a float. The fuel sender (in the tank with the pump) does have a float. It has nothing to do with your pump running.

Sometimes, when you run out of gas you **** a small piece of debris into the pump and it locks it up. Sometimes it will dislodge, most times it will not. That is why I asked if you hear the pump run for 5 seconds.

And, no, it won't hurt to spary a small amount of starting fluid into the throttle body directly. Put the intake hose back on before trying to start.

The Throttle position sensor is mounted OUTSIDE on the throttle body and your MAF sensor is mounted on the air intake hose between the air cleaner and throttle body.

If it starts for a few seconds after 3 or 4 attempts, it is the pump.

To prime your fuel injectors do this - turn key to on where the dash waring lights come on. Wait 5 seconds then turn key off for 30 seconds until the computer power relay cycles off. Then repeat 5 times. This will prime your fuel system to 40 psi.

If it does not start then, try the starting fluid in the throttle body. If it fiers or starts for a shrt time an then stalls, you may have debris stuck in the pump so the rotor can't spin and create pressure.

    let us know results.

No running out of gas will not mess up your fuel injecton. Most times fuel pumps have floats on them that shut them down if the fuel level is too low. Full the car up with 5 or more gallons of fuel turn the key to ACC or RUN for 5 seconds to let the fuel pump prime then turn the key back to off. Do this 4 or 5 times and then crank the car for 10 seconds at a time. It will eventually come back to life for you

I would advise against spraying anything into your intake. You may damage your MAF or TPS

Ran out of gas put some in but wont start. Got gas to return line but none in carburater

You don't have a carburetor, your fuel injected. The fuel goes through the fuel injectors. I'd use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, engine cranking.

Wont start

"a little" gas is not enough to start a fuel injected engine. if you have a fuel line disconnected and turn that key on , it will shoot gas all over the place. it can make a big mess if you are not prepared to catch it in a container. if it is pumping some gas out each time than you should assume the fuse is good. sounds like a bad pump. have fuel pressure and fuel volume checked

Ran out of gas .Car wont start.Chrysler Neon 2L Automatic.Where exactly is the fuel tank located?

The fuel tank is tucked up underneathe the chassis mid-body. What your problem is is that when you ran out of gas the injection system sucked in air. Your fuel system needs to be primed to get the air out.

Not getting fuel to engine, fuel pump checks good ,what would cause this.it ran out of gas is there any way to prime it.

I was told if you turn your ingintion off & on, but dont try to start the car. You just want to cycle the fuel pump, you must do this @ least 10 - 20 times. Then pull your housing around the fuel injection & spray some starting fluid in there, but be careful because it can start a back fire.

96 Jeep cherokee ran out of gas, re-fuel, won't start. No spark.

You may have to prime the fuel pump. Or replace the fuel pump if that does not work. Why do you let it run out of gas? This is definately not good for an injected motor. It will continue to cause more and more problems. Fuel injectors should never run dry.

Is my 88 dodge caravan fuel injected?

I beleive the fuel pump is in the gas tank, have someone go back to the gas tank and someone else turn the key on, if the pump is good you should hear it working, if you cant then youve probably burned the fuel pump up. When you run them completly dry of fuel it only takes about 1.5 seconds to burn the electric fuel pumps up.
Good luck.
