Hi dave well there have been issues with computers on those vans but all of your problems can be traced to the steering wheel. there is a part called a clock spring in the steering wheel that allows things like the horn and airbag to have an electrical contact while still being able to spin in a circle! you also have the cruise control running through the steeing wheel. anything unusual happen with the steering wheel. did it get wet or anything spilled on it? did you get a check engine light? the air bag light will come on if the control module loses contact with the air bag in the steering wheel but the check engine light will not come on if contact is lost with the controls for the cruise control. the horn is not monitored. a scanner would help here. parts stores have them and will often run it for free hoping you will buy parts from them. look for the computer to show the cruise control being requested when you try to turn it on. if nothing shows in the computer then you probably have a bad clock spring. this is a dealer only part and not cheap. maybe an independant repair shop would get a used one from a slavage yard for you. good luck

Where is the engine ecm located on a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L

Rebecca, first thank you for providing year engine size and the fact that it's a flex fuel van. Your ECM [engine control module or engine computer] is located right in front of the battery. This is an INCREDIBLY stupid place to put it [not to mention placing the fuse/relay box just outboard of the battery on this van] It is critical to keep the battery clean on this van, as any build up of dried battery acid will make it's way into the ECM and/or the fuse/relay box. The acid will do all sorts on nasty damage to these parts. They should shoot the idiot who designed the electrical system on these vans. FYI, I'm a professional mechanic with 40 years experience. I do not know if you have the 3.0L V6, 3.3L V6, 3.3L Flex-Fuel V6; or the 3.8L V6 Engines; however I have included all below:

For the 3.0L V6:
Firing Order:
1-2-3-4-5-6
Cylinders:
.....(back)
1......3.......5
2......4.......6

3..........2
5..........6
......4
...(front)

For the 3.3L AND 3.8L V6
Firing Order:
1-2-3-4-5-6
Cylinders:
.....(back)
1......3.......5
2......4.......6
....(front)
Ignition Coil:
(back)
5..1..3
2..4..6

I have a 1999 Dodge Caravan 4 cylinder, 2 wheel drive. I was driving down the rod, and it just stopped running. All of the lights still work, and the van will turn over but not start. It had a camshaft...

The problem is the MAP sensor, it measures air pressure in the manifold. If it didn't sense pressure, then ECU think the engine not turning, so giving no fuel hence the engine is not fired. Unplug the electric connector from MAP then restart. If it starts then replace the MAP sensor. It looks like this near the right of the upper intake plenum: d1e893c.jpg

Caravan reports Insufficient Catalyst

The downstream O2 sensor will probably fix the catalyst efficiency code. That code usually pops up when a new sensor is on the front and the old and slower sensor is still on the rear. The PCM compares them to decide if the converter is working. The airbag and cruise is probably a bad clockspring. It lives right behind the steering wheel. Disconnect the battery before attempting repairs on the airbag system for your own safety. You don't want an accidental deployment while working that close. I hope this helps.

Air bag light stays on

The Airbag, horn and cruise control share on common component. The clock spring inside the steering wheel. The clockspring is snapped into a plastic mounting platform on the steering column behind the steering wheel. The clockspring is used to maintain a continuous electrical circuit between the wiring harness and the driver's airbag module. This assembly consists of a flat ribbon like electrically conductive tape which winds and unwinds with the steering wheel rotation.
The clocksprings going bad is a common problem with Chrysler products. Since the Airbag is involved, I would recommend the dealer replace it. It is about a $175.00 to $200.00 repair. or you can try junk yards hope this help have a nice day.

1993 Varvan, Not Turn Signals, No Heater Blower, And AIr Bag Light Now On

boy, that sound like a major circuit to cause all that. either a main fuse under the hood or a main circuit wiring harness connector. there are no unfused circuits that could indicate a short unless there has been past fuse blowing problems
