It is probably associated with some interior group, such as glove box or something. Usually something else will not work when the lighter blows. If its still working..plug in something with a light..then one by one pull an interior item fuse...youll soon know.
First make sure you have the right size fuse in it look at your owners manual it should tell you what size to put in there sometimes people blow a fuse and replace it with a weaker fuse it will work for a while till they plug something in that overloads the fuse then blows and if they sell the car the new owners don't know this they just keep replacing it with same type fuse that's in it. Second make sure whatever it is you are plugging in doesn't have a short itself try plugging in something different and see if it blows then if it doesn't then you know where your problem lies.
glow light bulb could be burned out.but glow plugs is control by ECM AND RELAY.do your vechicle start but you dont see glow plug light on to let you know glow plugs are energized heating up.also check glow plug fuse, look in owner manual in glovecompartment it will show all fuses and relays locations.
Check if there is something plugged into a power socket or cigar lighter. if so remove it and se if the fuse stops blowing.
If all the sockets seem fine, then plug something you know that works into one and if it does not work, then the fuse is for the cigar lighter/12v socket.
Good luck
you may have accidently disconnected something. ie senser, vaccum line etc. I would just look to see if something is connected in the area I was working or something I removed to get to the plugs. good luck
If the mechanic forgot to plug something back in, take it back. Every mechanic I know would rectify a mistake like that for no additional charge, and with no waiting.
Try and plug something else into your Jetta. If that doesn't work than find the fuse panel and locate your lighter plug fuse, might be more than one, and it might be listed as something other then a cigarette lighter plug, might be listed as acc plug or something like that.
It sounds like you're describing the temperature sending unit. A connector should be attached to it but if it's leaking it needs to be replaced. if your engine temp guage/light is not working that's a good indication. I think you are being distracted by the power steering work, it has nothing to do with the cooling system...unless the sensor was smacked by something and broken. Remove the plug and replace it, those engines do not survive overheating very well. Your parts store should be able to identify a suitable replacement if you take the old plug in. Good luck!
