Do the cheapest thing first wich is to have the tranny filter and oil changed then go from there...then have ur tranny sensor checked

Hi there William, your problem could be that the auto rquires servicing if there is a dipstick for the auto oil check the colour of it, if not red/pink. Maybe low on trans fluid. Auto parts shop for correct fluid.May require auto shop for code scan as well.

The gear shifter broke off my 02 Mountaineer, the metal part that attaches the shifter lever to the steering column broke.


Shift lever collar is what is broke on our 2002 Mountaineer. It isn't difficult to replace, just time consuming. Look up part number 905-104 at Oreilly's

2002 mercury mountaineer 4.0 starter relay location


The power distribution box is
located in the engine compartment.
The power distribution box contains
high-current fuses that protect your
vehicle’s main electrical systems
from overloads.
The starter relay is in position #56 of that box.

Clunking or slipping in transmission or rear end while on highway


This might be a valve timing offset, that when you change gear your valves become ofset from your pistons and they might hit, or it might also be your crankshaft hitting your oil pan. either wich way this might be a serious problem.
