Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse
When I start my car and it is cold, my RPM's jump up and down between 1000 - 2500. When I drive away my car jumps back and forth like crazy. Once it is heated up and my temp is right in the middle, the car runs fine. When at idle, totally steady and runs fine. It only happenes when its cold. Outside of my car, it also smells like a boat. Like it is buring alot of gas. I usually get about 300 miles to the tank. Lately I've been getting about 250. Its a V6 3.0 Stick shift. Please help.
For the RPM's jumping up and down i would replace the throttle position sensor. If it smells like bad gas or rotten eggs these are signs that the cat. converter is going bad. For the poor gas mileage replace the fuel filter.
