Hello,

Thanks for using FixYa.

If the fuel pump relay keeps clicking, you might want to replace it because its not supposed to be doing that. Clicking sound for relays mean that there is something wrong with it.

I hope this helps. Thanks and good day.

The batteries need to be double checked for integrity. Have them load tested and have the charging system checked for proper charging voltage. If both of these check out good, pull the relay and check for corrosion and a green, powdery substance(electrolosis). check your power distribution box for any of the previous corrosion. Let me know what you find.

You're absolutely correct on it not having glow plugs. The pump should come on keeping pressure on the system so it can be forced through the injector as the cam comes around. Glad to hear that it is an updated pump. Eliviates alot. Check for corrosion and double check the batteries even though they may be new. I've worked on cars for a long time and if you have worked on cars too, you know that it is possible to have brand new electrical parts fail right off the shelf. Just make sure you are not spinning your wheels. The relay should not keep clicking rapidly so this is probably a bad ground (i.e. bad contact). Let me know, please.

The wait to start light is the heat grid at the intake could be going bad might cause it to idle a little rough but it wont effect the fuel pump. Id say you have a bad wire going to your fuel pump i would start at the fuse box and follow it down with a voltage meter. the clicking of the relay is a normal noise also so thats got nothing to do with it. good luck with those wires.

yes its suppose to come on everytime you turn ur key

  • dave taylor May 08, 2010

    did that answer your question?

  • dave taylor May 08, 2010

i told you what the problem was u could have at least checked it out before you asked someone else that your gonna pay to tell you the same thing i did. I am correct and now im not gonna get credit thats nice. also

no..that clicking noise is an electromagnet pulling a switch to close the circuit...its perfectly normal and your relay is working fine but you need to check the wires its the problem u fix that the clicking will stop and your fuel pump will turn on. check for inline fuses and shorts in the wire.

Oldsmobile alero intermittant prime

The way the system works is fairly simple.
The computer grounds the pump relay for 3 or 4 seconds when the key switch is turned on. If the engine does not produce oil pressure the pump power is cut.
If you have changed the relay and the problem persists, I would expect the problem to be in the computer.
The pass key system prevents the starter and fuel injectors from working. I don't think it controls the fuel pump relay.
Did you mean to say you had to wait 10 min before turning the key switch on a second time, or did you leave the key switch on for 10 min ?
You could probably use a low voltage tester or VOM to check the signal from the ECM, but the tool you use may cause the relay to come on in place of the signal.
The other three circuits are power from the battery, power from the key switch, and the line out to the pump. One of those could be faulty, especially the one from the key switch. But other things should be not coming on too if that were true.

I replaced fuel pump on my 2001 s10 i only put 4 gals of gas in didnt fill it too much incase it had to come back off my question is how much gas needs b in it for it to prime it pump runs a few seconds...

This should be enough to do the job. If the pump is cutting out check your fuel pump relay in the power distribution box under the hood and the ignition switch for a short as well as the connections on the bump for proper installation. The pump should stay cycling to maintain pressure on the line at the proper level. You also want to check the fuel pressure sensor to make sure it is working properly.

Helloo guys ,, I think that i have a problem with my 2005 civic, every morning when i want to start my car it takes me from 2-3 times to start the car , after that when i go for a drive and turn it of and...

HI, curious condition....you might try something to see if it is a fuel problem perhaps. Try a cold start (first thing in the morning as you say) but instead of jumping in and cranking it over, turn the key to the run position (all the way on right before you bump the starter) and wait 10 seconds before actually cranking the motor over. If it starts right up after trying this wait, it may not be priming correctly and should look at the fuel pressure regulator. (I'm thinking after is has been running, it is already primed and perhaps keeping too much prime pressure, hence the quick start when hot)...just a thought before assuming there is something amiss in the ignition or injection systems......Mike....please reply

Car want start theft light is on but fuel pump will not come on

Not sure if the alarm is causing but the things that do not allow a car to start and fuel pump to prime is ignition switch in column, ECM short or bad, main relay (ASD/MFI) fried, or bad fuel pump. That's if it cranks. If no crank then add starter, starter solenoid, or possibly the neutral safety switch is bad. Figure away to turn of alarm would be the 1st thing I would do.

sounds like your fuel pump is going out. One thought might be that the fuel filter is causing enough resistance to over heat the pump. I would check the fule pressure to determine a free flow of fuel.

Good fuel pressure. engine turns will not start. runs if primed through trottle body.

Replace the fuel pressure regulator in the intake plenum. This is the No. 1 problem for hard starting with the 4.3 L engine. It leaks fuel and loses fuel pressure when sitting for a few hours. You can try to cycle starter for a split second without cranking wait 3 seconds the turn key OFF then repete 3 times then tryto start. This will build up lossed fuel pressure and verify leaky fuel pressure regulator. Joe ASE Master Tech

1999 dodge ram 2500 5.9 cummins diesel.won't start.turns over thats it. put in a new intake fuel pump. still won't start.got fuel to the injectors sometimes.

Check the fuel pressure at the filter. Odds are the lift pump, located below the filter, is toast. Continual cranking of the motor with a bad LP wil cause the injector pump to heat up and burn out. Replace the LP and fuel filter. Bleed the system by cracking the inlet to the injector pump and bumping the enigine over so the LP will run. Once you have fuel at the injector pump, crack injectors 1,3,and 4. Crank the motor for no more 6 or 7 seconds at a time until it turns over. Give the pump time to cool for a couple of mintues between cranks. This process is easier with two people, one to crank and the other to watch for fuel and tighten the injectors once it starts. If the injector pump is fried at this point from cranking with no fuel, the motor should idle, but will stumble all over itself when the throttle is applied.

just bump the ignition without starting it let sit for 20 seconds oruntill you hear lift pump shut off then shut off ignition and repeat do it 2 or 3 times should start then cummins is a self priming system has been for years even in semi trucks
