Hi...2008 gmc sierra crew...check engine light came on thought maybe was standard just before hitting 30,000 then noticed low oil pressure ( 20 ) then noticed clacking noise?

Hi....update on low oil pressure 08 sierra issue....found out pump, etc. are fine and no leaks. When I had it checked found out 3.5 quarts low on oil since last oil change in March. So rapid oil consumption in the last couple of weeks?? Took it to the shop this morning locally for them to dig in as I was out of town and patched it with extra oil to get home.

update....thought the oil pump was out and had it towed while out of town. They plugged it in and the pump, etc are fine so patched it with 3.5 quarts of oil to get home and having it checked out locally. No leaks so it is burning the oil in the engine somehow...but 3.5 quarts in a couple thousand miles or less if problem just developed? While gasing up guy with a 2010 silverado pulled up next to me and asked how I liked it...asked me if mine was an '08 and said he had an '08 that they never could figure out why he was burning a quart plus between oil changes. **********just got off phone with dealer...evidently gm will be issuing a new bulletin in a month or two with a fix but they have not been notified exactly what the problem is. Should be interesting...

Sounds like an oil pressure problem. The clacking sound is most likely the lifters are collapsing due to loss of oil pressure. You may have a failing oil pump.

I have a 1991 gmc sierra and my oil pressure is dropping down to zero and it has began to knock it was not knocking or anything until i noticed my brake light was flashing now i reset the computer but

These symptoms usually mean you have a failed main or big end bearing in the engine. If it gets more noticeable as the engine warms up, that type of failure is even more likely. If the knocking varies with revs it is more likely a big end. You may be able to get the sump off without pulling out the engine, and do an inspection.

I can't think what the brake warning light would have to do with all that.

I have a GMC Sierra 2008 and the light of the engine come on and The Oil Pressure is to low, can you tell me what is going on Thanks

Sounds like you are triggering the check engine light due to low oil pressure. I would check your oil level and see if you are ok with oil. If you are then go to the nearest parts store and have them run a diagnostics (free) and tell you what the code is reading. That way you know what is going on. I have a feeling though that your oil pump is going bad and you are going to need a new oil pump

I have a 2003 gmc sierra 5.3 liter vortec why does my truck leak oil only under pressure

because your oil pressure rises to around 40psi when running and will leak at the weakest place, check your oil sending unit first and seals.

Why is my 94 gmc c1500 low oil pressure.

You may have a bad oil sending unit this is located under the hood near the oil filter two wires are connected to it. i would change this and see if your problem persists, if so you could have an oil pump you wont hear anything until its too late. 20 psi is all you need to keep it alive. good luck

I just bought a 2002 GMC 1500HD Crew Cab with 223,000 miles. The truck looks and runs like brand new. They were all freeway miles. The problem is this. When it first starts the oil pressure gauge is in the...

Nope, normal on start up is 60 PSI and once warmed up drops to 45 psi. Have the oil pressure checked for a proper reading during start up's when the engine is cold. As for the lifters ticking, that may be a sign that the engine was ran with low oil pressure or no oil and the lifters are damaged, or low oil pressure and the lifters are starved of oil. Try not to drive it and have a proper oil pressure reading, low oil pressure will damage the engine by having the main crank bearing to spin which is a engine replacement. Good luck and keep me posted.
