Well if you can get the key in and out but cant turn i would first spray some lube into the tumblers but you have to make sure to get the stuff from the parts store thats for that second is this an automatic on the floor shift if it is it could be shift linkage other thing would be to call a lock smith to come and reset or rekey the lock and if the steering wheel wont lock its usally becuase the tumblers in the lcok are miss aligned or stuck or broken etc...

Why won't my ignition key turn over and my steering wheel is locked in place at the sametime?

I'm assuming you mean your key wont turn in the ignition. first off check to make sure the car is in park. then what you gotta do is put in the key and put a little pressure as if turning but dont turn too hard, then even though the steering wheel is locked you will have to try to move it a little, if you parked with your tires turned then you will want to try to turn the wheel in the same direction, (even locked you should be able to move it about a half inch) you will have to turn the wheel hard but it should move enough to allow the key to turn, you may have to jiggle the key a little in the ignition but it should eventually turn, just remember not to try turning the key too hard, the extra force wont make it go but can cause the key to break. this tends to happen when you turn the car off andthe steering wheel gets locked if the wheels are turned hard in either direction. also if multiple attempts at this still dont work, try taking the key out and turning it over and trying again. Even though both sides of the key are identicle, because of wear on the key and the ignition, sometimes when the wheel locks the ignition, it will only turn if the key is put in a certain way. Hope this helps, good luck

Ignition key wont turn so i can start my car

Hello there try giving your steering wheel a good **** and try the ignition at same time. I know the steering wheel is in the locked position but there is a little bit of play there that sometimes will release the locked up ignition.

Locked steering column

Place key in ignition

Turn key to on position (do not start car)

With foot on brake, and grabbing the steering wheel, pull harder while turning completely to the left holding steering whell there, start igntion, lock should release.

Hope this helps

Good Luck

Car will not start, key will not turn, car hit in back drivers side today sitting still. Car is in netural, cannot turn key or steering wheel

Hiya,
I would say that the impact from the other car has pushed your car forwards and turned the steering wheel a little which has put the steering lock on real hard. You may have to "muscle" the steering wheel in the direction the wheels are turned while trying to turn the key to get it to unlock.

The key will not turn when in the ignition as as well as the steering wheel

The cylinder is well worn and needs to be replaced
A tumbler in the lock cylinder has gotten very thin and bent out of shape causing your problem

Key ignition is locked, steering wheel is not locked, and unable to put car in neutral- how can I turn car on?

try this..turn the steering wheel as hard as you can until it locks(any direction)then put key in ignition and holding wheel over (anyway)turn key to start car.then when you park up turn wheel over 1/2 turn to park...should work...(toyota have an antitheft steering lock)the wheel will turn when steering lock is on.rather than break lock.please do not try to see if it works....only works once...and not in handbook...

IGNITION AND STEERING LOCKED!

Try pressing the key down little bit while you are trying to turn it towards ignition, at the same time slowly turning the steering wheel clockwise and counter clockwise ( it's locked but it still moves a little bit), it should release the steering wheel lock. hope it helps
p.s please rate the answer if you found it helpful, i need it for my ratings, thanks!

The key will turn far enough to start the accessories but will not move far enough to turn the engine on.

try turning steering wheel a bit, or move shifter up past park. Otherwise ignition may have a broken or stuck pin and will need to be replaced.

Seabring igntion switch locked 2004 the key wont turn either way, or start the car

Sounds like the steering is locked up, go in the car and rigirously turn the wheel in either direction (shake from left to right), this will free up the steering and allow you to turn the key.
