Question about 2003 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

2 Answers

2005 New Beetle conv. Power top quits usually half way open, somtimes goes all the way and quits while closing it. When this happens I open the valve in the trunk so I can operate it manually. I thinks maybe there's a relay or breaker kicking off somewhere. If I try it later on or the next day it does the same thing. Could the switch be faulty? Is the switch some kind of relay that might be kicking off and coming back on after cooling down? Very aggravating to say the least. Any help you can give will be appreciated. Thanks, Maxine

Your idea about air in the system would make sense except when the top stops working the noise the pump makes stops also. If it was air or low fluid the pump would still be running, am I correct? I would think the pump is run electrically. Would you know if the power top switch is a relay also or is there an inline resettable breaker somewhere? Thanks

2005 VW New Beetle. Power top works intermittenly, quits while opening or closing. I then have to open the valve in the trunk to open or close the top manually. I'll try it again later on or the next day and it will work for a few seconds. It might open all the way but quits when I go to close it or visa-versa. The sound the motor makes actually stops also. Is there an inline breaker somewhere or could the switch itself be faulty.

Hi! Can you try to lubricate the mechanism of the roof? It may be corroded thats why its kinda stucking up. Once lubricated it can operate smoothly. Hope this helps and have a good one!

SOUND LIKE AIR IN SYSTEM DUE TO LOW FLUID.CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL IN THE SIDE RESERVOIR.IT SHOULD BE BETWEEN MIN AND MAX.TO BLEED AIR OUT OF SYSTEM. WITH FLUID LEVEL CORRECT.CAR ENGINE RUNNING.RAISE AND LOWER THE TOP.IF FLUID HAS EXCESSIVE AIR.AND THE TOP DONT RAISE OR LOWER.HAVE A HELPER HOLD THE SWITCH WHILE YOU RAISE AND LOWER THE TOP SLOWLY BY HAND.DO THIS SEVERAL TIME TO WORK AIR OUT OF SYSTEM.

Beetle servo motor stuck

All operations are handled by the convertible top control module. Assuming everything else works except the roof lock(s), the control module may not be getting the right inputs for locking. The convertible top operation switch could be defective or the top open/closed position switches could be defective or the linkage flap position sensors could be defective and finally, there could be a mechanical problem

No heat when stopped for traffic

1-your thermostate is stuck open half way. thermostate is a simple device that made of enlarging metals when heat is applied. it suposed to be in close position to allow engine heat up, when specified temp reached it opens and let it flow and radiator tries to keep coolant cool.when it is broken it stucks or it acts slow or it wont acts at all. in your situation it is stuck open half way. it allows enough water to be heated but flow is limited to heat cabin heater.

2-if there are cabin heater selenoid/selenoids for two different temperature for cabin left and right, on some instance those selenoid valves to adjust cabin heater stuck open or closed like thermostate acts on first case. so heat is not enough to heat up cabin heater.
