Question about 1993 Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

1993 Trans Am won't start after battery dies. Recharged battery gives pleanty of power, but when key is turned, the engine/starter studders and the lights inside the car flicker at the same rate. Thanks for any advice. Stuck-in-Garage-in-Cleveland.

My friend you need a new battery or u have a poor battery cable connection, what is happening is due to low battery voltage, just because you recharged the battery DOES NOT mean the battery is any good..

1993 Pontiac Trans Sport will not start. Wiggle wires in engine, slide shifter back and forth, removed and reinserted key, let it sit for a while, and still will not turn over the engine. Nothing. I did...

Check the battery connections--especially the positive terminal. Use a special wire brush tool from an auto parts store (cheap) to clean the posts and terminal interiors. Check the cable going into the terminal for corrosion as well--it may have damaged the interior wire. If no help, use a test light or meter to check for power at the starter solenoid. When the key is turned, you should hear a fairly loud 'click' from the solenoid. If it clicks, test for power at the starter terminal--when it clicks, power should appear at the starter. If so, the starter motor is defective and should be replaced. If no power, then the solenoid is defective. If no click at all, check the neutral safety switch for the automatic transmission or maybe the key switch itself. Hope this helps!
