I started my car and it started great! But then it died

I started my car and it started great! But then about 3 seconds later it just died. I started it two more times and the exact same thing happened. By the fourth try... nothing. It was not even trying to turn it over. No tick, tick, tick, no nothing. We tried jump starting and still nothing. The electrical stuff works in the car. Fans, lights, radio, etc. Can you help? Why wont my car start?

I started my car and it started great! But then about 3 seconds later it just died. I started it two more times and the exact same thing happened. By the fourth try... nothing. It was not even trying to turn it over. No tick, tick, tick, no nothing. We tried jump starting and still nothing. We tried jump-starting it again but this time letting the other car charge it for about ten minutes. NOTHING. Anyway I was thinking that there might be something that would cause it to die after being started and going for 3 seconds. I dont know. What do you know?

The car is a 2000. We just bought it. As for as I know it is the original.

Have the battery charged and tested and then test the charging system. Are there any check engine lights on? Let me know what they find on the battery and alternator and then we can go from there.

If the battery has a short or is over 5 years old it is possible to have these conditions occur. Even if you try to jump start it. I t may not be atking a charge. The entire system must have a good power source ir it wont start or run because of all of its electronics. Start at the battery.

How old is your battery? If it is old may be the battery is shorting out when you use the starter. A battery shorted out will not even jump unless you place the jump cable on the positive and the negative on metal or steel in the engine area. If you have a good battery available try that. It will help me if I know what kind and year of your car. Please get back to me with the above info. Darrell S

Try jumping the way I explained. If you have any way to load test your battery that would be good to do. If you can check if there is current, check where the positive cable attaches to the starter. Wiggle that connection also to make sure it is tight. Look for ground wires to your engine also. A loose or rusted ground wire. So many things to look for but take them one at a time. First check the battery if you can or change it with another good one. Check for current to the starter. Check connections on the starter.
I am suspicious that a ground could be the problem because the car started then died and then the car went dead. one other thing, there is a starter switch usually on the steering column. That could be bad If it is the starter will not make a peep.Best I can do from here. I feel for you electrical is not easy to diagnose without equipment. Darrell Sorenson

Where should I start looking for a solution to my 05 Hyundai Sonata crank/no start?

Nicole 3 things keep a motor from starting.1. NO SPARK, 2. NO FUEL,. 3 ENGINE DAMAGE. Check to see if it has spark..
if it has spark its probably loss of fuel.. can be a clogged fuel filter or a inoperative fuel pump..

1991 Camaro RS v-6 will start but dies almost immediately

Keep it simple and replace the fuel filter first, if thr fiiler has not been replaced within 30,000 miles or 1 year. Then it's a good chance that it's going to be the fuel filter.

My starter won't crank. Then it will the car

sounds like a problem with the factory security system or the body control module (BCM), you will need the dealer to test it, they have the scan tool to do these tests, the scanner is a dealer only tool.

1990 dodge caravan starts then dies after 30 seconds.

cycle key, on,off,on,off,on & leave it on (not start) & count flashes from check engine light to see if getting any trouble codes. example: 2 flashes, pause, 2 more, is code 22. 3 flashes, pause & 3 more, is code 33, etc.. let us know what you get, if any. P.S. Code 55 - 5 flashes, pause 5 more, is end of message.

Car starts and dies in 3 seconds

Try unhooking the battery for about 3-5minutes. I have a 2001 malibu that does the same thing. When you hook up the battery and turn the key forward you should see the gauges return to normal before you try to crank the engine. It may also be the theft system. To reset that you have to turn the key forward for 10 minutes and then shut it off for 10 seconds. Then try again to start the car. It may take up to 3 attempts at this. Which means sitting in the parking lot for over a half hour. Been there done that. GM sucks.
