This happened to me, I removed the interior light fixture on the rear hatch and reached in to pull the connecting rod, this works for an one off opening, you will need to take the panel off once the hatch is open and repair your outer handle, our connection was broken at the handle which I repaired and it works great. Hope this helps.

Best you can do is move it back and forth, pull and release and see if moving it right and left will release it, making sure it is not twisted at the point where it goes into the receiver.

Unfortunately, you will have to remove the panel of the door, Use flathead screwdriver to pry open. It is very likely the spring fell off.

crawl under the car with a drain contaner and a cresent wrench. Under the engine is the oil pan. The drain plug is located on the bottom end or slightly above on the side. It may be covered in dirt so scrap around. It has to be there. No other place for the oil to come out. It is possable it is a plug type with a large allen wrench hole or a squar hole that a ratchet will fit in to but most of them it is a bolt type. Don't forget to change the oil filter when changing oil. Let me know if this helps, The Raz

SOURCE: replacement of rear hatch latch.
Purchased a gl450 under 50,000miles in April under the orginial warranty. Had a leak within the same month not oil but what appeared to be transmission fuild-took it to a local mercedes dealer was told its nothing as they check everything with no leakage noted. 4 months later no longer under warranty just alittle over 50,000 miles the clut in the transmission went out priced at over $7000. I argued w/ the dealer with the inital offer to cover only half of the price. Argued more as they covered 90% of the cost of a new transmission which costed me approx $600 w/ a warranty on the new transmissioin for another 24,000 miles or 2 years. Do you think I still need an extended warranty on the car?
