99 subaru outback legacy. I got a bad knocking noise in the front, its coming from the area flywheel & torque converter, I don't know what its called, some say its third member or transfer case or...

If the noise is coming from the area you say it could be loose torque converter bolts or a cracked flexplate. If you do not have one, a stethascope is available at the auto parts stores and that will help pinpoint the area where it is coming from.

Can not get the cage off of the rear end of a dodge ram 2001 1500 2 wheel drive

If you have the rear differental housing cover, if you check the center of the 3rd member housing ,you will locate a shaft that runs through the center of the housing ,that has the spider gears at the top and bottom. That shaft is held in with a small bolt on the side [5/16 wrench to remove] ..Once the bolt is removed, position the 3rd member to let the
shaft fall out. Once the shaft is removed try to keep from turning the 3rd member or the spiders will fall out...Go to each wheel and push in on the out side of the wheel axle to remove the "C" clip inside the 3rd member and slade axle back to clear third member . Repeat the same on the other axle and that should allow you to remove the third member after the 4 bolts are
removed on the side bearings. Let me know if that helps

Rear differential noise

replacing rear axle bearings needs disassembling but only up to the back plate of your brake system. you dont need to disassemble the third member. Just pull the axle shaft. Normal mechanic tools wont suffice. youll need a press machine to do this job.
