Question about 1991 Honda Accord

1 Answer

My Honda Accord 91 LX, has a problem with the GREEN ''S'' light coming on and not manually. I reset by disconnecting the negative cable of battery then it only last a few days...Often the ''S'' light will just come on and then the car will not shift like it suppose to. It is an Automatic trani. The car acts as if it has no juice in 3rd or 4th when this GREEN ''S'' light appears. It will take off in 1st or 2nd but you can hear that it is no good for the car ( very low pluse) when yo get to 40 mph. Sounds like a govenor was placed on the trani in this mode, no up shifting... I spoke with my mechanic but he says that it can not be the Speed Sensor ''VSS'' as the odometer seems to work just fine while in this ''S'' green light mode .... Any suggestions.? My mechanic also tried to find out what was wrong by putting a bridge on the 2 wires at the central box located under passenger side but can not get any feed back from the # of light blinks as he his suppose to... So no error readings when he does the test to find out where the error is.. They also changed by fluid and said it showed no signs of grit and/or metal... Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get this problem solved especially traveling with a child and it's eratic appearance...and not knowing if I wil get home. Thank YOU!

You are going to need the tranmission control module replaced. If you peel back the carpet on the pass. side front you will see the computers mounted to the toe board. There will be a **** in the metal pan that holds them down, you should just be able to see the part numbers. Write them down and try to locate the correct one on ebay. There are a couple of companies that rebuild them and sell them on ebay, much cheaper than the Honda dealer. Do some research on the transmission control modules for your honda you will see how common it is plus the symtoms match yours exactly! Good luck

How to remove starter from 1998 Honda Accord LX 4cyl?

Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Caution: If you have an anti-theft radio, make sure you have the activation code before disconnecting the battery.

Remove the battery and battery tray from the engine compartment (remove the battery first, then remove the bolts for the battery tray and remove it.).

Remove the lower radiator hose and the wiring harness from the starter bracket. Make sure they are positioned out of the way.

Clearly label, then disconnect the wires from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid (the smaller cylinder attached to the starter). Disconnect any clips securing the wiring to the starter.

Remove the mounting bolts (two) and detach the starter (pull it gently out of its housing).

Reverse this procedure for installation.

Hope this is of help to you.

My d4 light blinks in my 92 accord

What solenoid did you replace? Disconnecting the negative battery cable will reset the flashing light, however, if it goes back on, or fails to reset, you still have an issue to correct with the accord.

We got a 91 honda acorrd lx with new barriery and altanater and the car doesnt stay powered up

There's a good chance you have an open circuit such as the door or glove box even the trunk light stays on even though they appear to be closed this switch may not make a complete connection most switches are made from plastic and they wear over time... A simple test with a test flight will determine this .. disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and connect one end of the test light to battery and the other to the battery cable With everything turned off does the light stay lit if so you have a draw in which case you'll need to pull fuse by fuse until the light goes out all while holding the door switch in the closed position so not to get a false reading... This is the starting point in which to determine just that.

How do you install a battery in a 91 honda accord

Make sure the ignition switch is turned OFF . Disconnect the negative battery cable first, then the positive cable from the battery. Remove the battery hold-down clamp nuts, the clamp and the battery from the vehicle. To install,be sure the battery is seated correctly on the battery tray. Make certain the battery retainer is securely fastened. Connect the positive battery cable first, then the negative battery cable.

This is a reminder that you are almost due for an oil change, or other maintenance. It will soon turn red, it's determined by mileage driven since it was last reset. You can reset it just by inserting the car key into a slot, which I believe is under the tachometer. By inserting the key, it will reset to green. It actually isn't a light, just green, yellow or red that turns over like the odometer at specified mileage. Let me know if you have any trouble finding it. Curt

Check the battery and alternator. Sounds like an over charge condition. Look for any possibility that water/ice got into any wiring/conections and broke/shorted them.
