Question about 1999 Chevrolet Lumina

Coolant is burning & decreasing automatically almost 3-4 lts of collant is burning after traveling 100-150 KM in the radiator, no leakage nothing radiator is perfect.

    if coolant is entering the combustion chamber, youshould have loads of white smoke pouring out of the exhaust. if the is no discharge from the exhaust pipr, then the coolant is getting into the crankcase.

You either have a bad head gasket or transmission cooler is leaking (internally).
Is coolant, engine oil or transmission oil milky?
Is whitish grey smoke comming out of tail pipe on start up?
If you answered YES to any of the above you have major engine problems.
Have the vehicle diagnosed asap don't want you to have to pay for a tow.

with that many miles on the clock, the engine will be working over time to do the job
Auto transmissions have an oil cooler in the radiator tank and if the transmission is having trouble coping with the load of the caravan and the speed at which you are travelling, that extra transmission heat will only add to the engine overheat problems
One way to overcome that is to have a transmission specialist shop install an air cooled transmission oil cooler
They allow the transmission to run cooler as the system is cooled by passing air rather that heated engine coolant and the radiator is no longer trying to cope with the additional hot transmission oil
it is possible to get thermostats that open earlier than normal specs and have a larger valve opening that has less restriction on coolant flow when fully opened

My toyota townace regurgitates the coolant when I turn it off


It is possible that there is an air lock in the cooling system and this is allowing the coolant to hit the hot cylinder walls when the engine is switched off which immediately boils off. It is possible that there is a head gasket problem coming on as well so have a compression test done to check for gasket/ cracked head faults.

Obd2 system rediness status won't clear so I can run the smog test due to replacing the battery.

Fuel remained in fuel tank: 30 - 50% is recommended.
Time required: 16 minutes or less after started the engine.
Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position. Well be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 89 km/h (55 mph) or more.

Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 89 km/h (55 mph) or more.
Travel for 300 seconds or more while keeping the vehicle speed at 89 km/h (55 mph) or more.
Decelerate until the vehicle speed is within 80 km/h (50 mph) or less.
While traveling at 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) for 10 minutes or more, fully close the throttle at least once in 2 minutes and decelerate for 10 seconds or more.
Do not repeat deceleration too often.
Vehicle speed may go below 56 km/h (35 mph) after the deceleration.
Stopping and braking are permitted. (If stopped or drive at 56 km/h (35 mph) or less for more than 5 minutes the monitoring may be stopped. In this case please restart monitoring from the beginning.)
After completing the above deceleration, bring the vehicle speed back to 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) and keep it in the range until starting the deceleration again.
Repeat the above deceleration at least 5 times.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position

Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position). Will be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph).
While keeping the accelerator pedal opening degree constant, keep the vehicle speed at 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) and travel for 16 minutes or more.
Stopping and braking during this operation are permitted. Keep the accelerator opening degree constant for 1 minute or more after each acceleration.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position

Drive cycle pattern: One trip monitor (from start to ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position). Will be completed while traveling with the following drive cycle pattern.
Test Procedure
Engine: start.
Accelerate until the vehicle speed is 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph).
While traveling 16 minutes or more at 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) with engine speed 2,000 r/min or above, fully close the throttle at decelerate for 5 seconds or more until the engine speed reaches 1,000 r/min or under.
Do not repeat deceleration too often.
Stopping and braking are permitted (Rapid deceleration and sharp steering are not permitted).
After completing the deceleration, bring the vehicle speed back to 56 - 80 km/h (35 - 50 mph) and keep it in the range until starting the deceleration again.
Repeat the above deceleration at least 8 times by fully closing the throttle valve.
Return the vehicle to the shop, then turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position

Your coolant is rusty or milkshake-like?

If you arent leaking coolant or oil I think the both being burned in the combustion chambers! Look for oily steam at the tailpipe!

The check engine light probably came on because your O2 sensors are both shot from the excessive oil and coolant baking onto them!

Check for collapsing radiator hose on suction side of waterpump when motor revs raised above idle.
Check collant resevoir pressure cap is serviceable,
Check coolant system is properly filled - carry out any bleed off procedure specified to clear any air locks.
Check condition of radiator core:-
1) for blockage of air flow to (bugs/grass etc),
2) and internal blockage to coolant flow,

Replace the thermostat, if all above ok.

Collant isn't leaking out but it is evaporating or somehow i'm losing it and now no heat


No heat is the result of low/no coolant. Some places to look for the coolant leaks: Bad head gasket, cracked head, "pinholes" in one of the hoses, leakage around the clamps, and a hole in one of the side tanks on the radiator. If your windows are fogging upon startup or you have a sweet smell inside the cabin chances are the heater core is bad.

1995 ES 300 - antifreeze is draining from reserve. took to a mechanic who did diagnostic. said everything was fine. said no antifreeze in radiator so he topped off. 2 weeks later, the car is running hot...


Is the reserve tank cracked or have a deteriorated hose going to the radiator? Remove the tank to find out. A bad seal on the radiator cap can also lose fluid. A coolant leak anywhere can deplete the coolant level in the radiator and reserve tank. Check your owners manual for antifreeze type and mix ratio with water.
