I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the up/down lever on the driver side air vent located to the left of the center console is no longer working. Not sure if they got off track or if the mechanism is completely broken. Moving the lever up and down results in only the single attached vent moving...the rest must be manually moved with a finger. The left/right lever mechanism works fine still. Do you know if there is a track inside the air vent and I just need to reseat these or do I need to replace the entire thing? If it has to be replaced any idea as to the correct part name. Having a rough time googling it. Thanks!

There are usually 3 or 4 actuators. One is for center vents, one is for defrost, one is for heat and one is for outside air. You need to go online in your browser and put in '2005 Jeep Gran Cherokee A/C Actuators'. You will get a diagram that shows the location of each actuator I have listed. Usually there are 1 or 2 actuators you can get to and change without removing 1/2 of the dash. If you are lucky it will be located on the passenger side next to the center console going towards the firewall.
apparently it is dual climate control. most common failure is the blend door actuator motor has gone bad on the passenger side. however it could be the door in the HVAC box has broken or the control head is bad.
This system uses vacuum from the engine intake manifold to steer the vacuum actuator of the mode door. Fail safe position is defrost. Most of the time problem is caused by a loose vacuum line at the manifold or a shaved trough line somewhere under the hood. The line runs on the LH side off the engine (as seen from drivers position) starting on the intake manifold.
You will need to recharge your system , go to the nearest parts store and buy what ever brand that is recomended, and attach it to the lower air conditioning recharge valve.
My 1999 limited does this. When i bought it off the guy he said that its because of some flap down by the passengers left foot. In mine the passenger air barely even blows because of this.
I agree, these vehicles have a problem with the blend doors and since the accuators hit the door when it opens and closes, it breaks the doors. and it's a huge job to replace them.
