Thats good then. By the way, have you tried resetting the system? You may need to disconnect the battery connectors and let it sit for atleast an hour. Then lets see how it goes, have yourself a testdrive after an hour.

Tachometer stopped working. Is it some sensor that I can fix myself?

If it has an ignition control module there will be a "tach out" wire it is usually white in color, you can check that wire for tach signal. If no signal replace Ignition control module. If it has proper signal it is likely a bad gauge in the instrument cluster.

Tachamererter intermit dont work

Tachometer failures are very common on this brand. The tach will tend to hop around first and then just stop.
The most common failure for this concern is a faulty tach in the instrument cluster. This can be checked by using a scan tool to observe the instrument cluster data for the r.p.m. signal, if the scan tool shows a tach signal (RPM) signal then the instrument cluster isn't displaying this signal and is faulty and needs replaced or repaired.

Hope helps.

I have an 89camaro irocz 28 with 5.0, with a rebuilt tranny about 3 yes ago. While driving on overdrive at about 40-50 mph it will shift into od geer then back to 3rd then od again what could be causing...

Yes it can be what it is doing is called hunting, As for your RPM tach it has nothing to do with it, Now your transmission is a 4L60 and YES it does need a tach signal or the RPM signal it doesnt matter if your Tach gauge doest work but it need the tach signal for the transmission to work. And NO there is NO VSS it needs TACH. or it will hunt for a shift that is why its doing this.Youll need to restor the TACH to the transmission so it can shift properly, Now youll either have a 4pin connection,1 wire or youll have a 4 pin 2 wire connection or youll have a 4 pin 3 wire connection This transmission need tach signal so bear with me i am going to some how draw it pretend your looking at the switch. connection

I C D I Okay the C is TACH that has to work

Where does the rpm gauge hook up to on the engine of 1999 chevy malibu v6 engine.

The tach signal can be picked up at the powertrain control module (PCM) located behind the left side dash. The tach wire is white in plug C2 pin #10.

Hi the tack dose not work all the time

There should be a white wire on the side of distributor cap unused or the white wire beside the pink one that is proper tach reference

Speedometer turn signal short 94 c1500

First I would go back and check out the turn signal switch to make sure you install that correctly. Look for shorts or wires that could be grounding out. Go to the library and getting a wiring diagram and find out everything that goes to that fuse. Also if the truck is rusty check all the body grounds. Good luck.

How is it that the tach gets its signal from the + side of the coil. This car has had a msd ready-to-run dist. install on it using a Blaster 3 coil. The msd unit must have 12 volts all the time, not the 7...

To get the tach to work you will need an adapter available from MSD. The last one I bought was about $80, but it has been awhile. Go to and do a search for tach adaptor for more information. Good luck.

as far as i know all of the 97 s-10 came with these unless it is an automatic, they dont have thre prewiring for the tach but you can get a signal interceptor that goes beween the computer harness and the computer that will pick up the crank sensor's signal and send it to an aftermarket tach
