Question about 1994 Mercury Tracer
We just bought a 1994 Mercury Tracer LTS Sedan used and about 2 weeks after getting it, I went to park it by putting it in 1st gear and the Shifter handel and bar dropped about an inch and I got under the car and the shifter bar from the actual shifter to the transmission(front-wheel drive) was held up into place through the floor by a hose clamp. Is this how it is supposed to be held up? If not, what should be there to hold it up or what else can I use to fix the problem because the shifter rides on the exhaust when in 5th gear.
Simply, no, shifter is not held up by hose clamp. I would recommend locating a good used assembly from a wrecking yard and replacing it. You could try to take it all apart to find out what is broken, probably will end up needing to replace the assembly.
